What is the most important football win

In Clemson history? I say the 2012 Chick-Fil-a Bowl win over LSU. Tajh Boyd taking all those punishing hits and kept getting back up to lead the Tigers to the win. It pushed the program to the next level.

Without that win, we probably would not have retained Dabo for 2009.

2016 Natty in my opinion really changed things. From that year on recruit knew we were the real deal and you can see recruiting shift heavily that year forward. There were wins that led us to that moment but that win kicked us into overdrive the most.

Agree that was paramount to the success of today and best game I’ve witnessed in my 63 years!

Either... 13-3 over Georgia and Hershel Walker in 1981. Propelled Clemson to their 1st NC. or 1st NC win over Alabama. That game took us to another level.

Tough question. So many possibilities.

Definitely the 2012 CFA Bowl win over LSU was pivotal.
The 2003 dominating win over FSU was quite significant following a devastating loss to WFU.
Another, the 2014 BCS Orange Bowl victory over the Bucknuts was important victory since it was brought some additional respect after leaving OSU with a bunch of hurting buckaroos.
Of course, the 2016 National Championship over the Mount Olympus god, Sabanicus, planted us where we are now.

Absolutely hands down gotta be 1981 NC. It put us in "the club." Some schools in the nation, heck even the state, have never won a fb natty.

Would disagree only because it also put us as the only school to win NC and then go on probation the following year.

All these “recent” wins are important and I don’t want to downplay any but I’ve always looked at the 7-6 win over Georgia in Athens in 1977 as hugely significant. It showed the Tigers could win a big game on the road and could play with anybody. It also set the stage for the great 1978 team and the championship team of 1981. Clemson was a powerhouse in the 80’s and while a couple of mediocre decades ensued the fan base always knew what was possible and it all started that day in Athens.

Alabama vs LSU 2009?

Just because that game was the catalyst that gave us the playoff.
I'd say I agree with you, actually. That LSU game was brutally physical and will always be looked at as a turning point for Clemson; we probably should have lost that game (i.e. CLEMSONING) and this was the end of that entire era, honestly.
In no uncertain terms, it helped change both the direction & outside perception of Clemson as an elite football contender.

That game did indeed change the trajectory of the program.

But, as far as VALIDATION of the program, has to be the 2016 Natty win over Bama. You could claim all the "moral' victories you wanted from the previous year's close call. But, to slug it out with the SEC's best team, and come out on top, that was when the table had to grudgingly have the chairs rearranged to make a spot for us with the Big Boys.
Then, of course, 2018 was the cherry on top. But, enough time has passed now that we need to win another one to reestablish positive momentum.

I remember driving to an early morning meeting the day after that. The sun was coming up and the entire sky was orange and purple. God must have thought that was our biggest win and I'm not going to argue.

Or…sunlight at that angle passes through more atmosphere/molecules, scattering the violet and blue away and creating conditions which make the sky look different colors like orange. If you get the right pink hue, it meshes with the dark blue sky to produce purple…but I get your point.

!978 Gator Bowl win over Ohio St. Woody Hayes did more to raise Clemson's national exposure than anyone else.

Without question 1981 win over Nebraska in the national championship

Before that win, Clemson was considered a B list football program. It put us on a map and set the stage for a decade of relevance. Without that win, I just don’t know that anyone would’ve believed in Clemson football, ever

You have to bracket the question by decade or something. Otherwise, most recent big wins win.
