so I'm in the "Dec 1998" mass birthdate. I was on here a couple years before that in 1996, maybe even late 1995, can't remember. Member #491.
As mentioned by others, it was the only way to get good Clemson sports info if you lived out of state. The Orange & White newspaper took a week+ to arrive in the mail, so during football season the next game has been played before you got recap of a ballgame, which sucked. There wasn't wide dispersal coverage of basketball, baseball, etc so you had to rely on the Tiger Chat to keep up with "live action" of games.
First mass excitement of Tigernet was the Rick Barnes 1996 basketball season when we started the year with the win over Kentucky and rose to #2 in the country by mid-Jan 1997. I think that was the spur that got the site off and running to a large number of sign-ups.

At first you could just use any name that you wanted to. Of course people would just use the same name to troll. Then IP addresses were attached so you could keep that from happening, then the logins came.

We saw a large void in Information on Clemson sports so the Lord immaculately conceived Bmiest and Crump. Like any religion, TigerNet became perverted after its creation by useless minions who waste countless hours scrolling through mindless drivel. Easily the US GDP suffers 1-2% in lost productivity annually as a result of TigerNet. Other statistical correlation between TigerNet include increases in divorce rates, obesity, premature senility and alcoholism. Recent polls show an overall approval rating of 17% but the addictive properties are too strong to decrease participation rate.

in the life of TigerNet, as I have been an avid fan of Clemson since the 60s. Named my former stray dog "Taz" in the late 60s after the late Clemson basketball great Butch Zatezalo(23.5/gm for 3 years).
There seems to have been a lot of turnover in the poster pool over the years.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30 AM at St. Elijah Cemetery Resurrection Chapel in his hometown of Aliquippa, PA. Zatezalo was 57 years old. A three-year letterwinner, he concluded his playing career as Clemson's leader with an all-time scoring average of 23.5 points per game, a record which still stands today. He finished his career with 1,761 points, a record that stood until it was broken in 1990 by Elden Campbell. Zatezalo earned All-ACC honors each of his three seasons as a Tiger, the first in school history to do so. An incredible shooter, he ranks fifth all-time in Clemson history with an 82.1 percentage from the free-throw line. Included in his 501 makes from the charity stripe was a 17-17 performance versus Maryland in January of 1968. Zatezalo also scored 20 or more points 52 times in his career, 14 more than any other player in school history. He was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.
