For some of you engineers on this slow day: Just moved

into a different house. The front door is set back into a 5'x6' portal, which is a nice area to get out of the weather in a quick manner. When the wind blows, leaves from the nearby woods get sucked into the area, then just spin in circles without exiting. When you open the door to go in/out leaves get sucked into the house.
I don't want to build a wall with a storm door. We have too many doors already. If I put a board on each corner slanting at an angle, would these "wings" prevent the vortex from forming? If so, do I face the angle inwards or outwards?
I realize I should form a committee to explore the design, permitting, budgeting, and my compensation. But since I'm the only one concerned about it, I would have some conflicts in serving on each committee.

1. Use a different door.
2. Don't open the door so fast.
3. Trial & error; put up temporary wings to see what works.
4. Falling leaves should be almost gone by now.
5. Give the wife a broom or rake.

Put up some lattice on one of the corners perpendicular to the wall with ornamental vines or Camellia growing on it.

Putting up a screen door will prevent the leaves from being sucked into the house when the vacuum is created by opening the door.

You could always install one of those blowers above the door that operate off a door switch that would come on instantly when the door opens and blow straight down

Cut in a second front door next to this one, maybe where a window is, and laugh at the leaves when you open the new door and they try to get in through the old door.

Second, if leaves get sucked into the house quickly there are several variables. one - who ever build the house did not employ an architect. That's just bad design from some online set of plans. (at best). If I am assimilating this information correctly, there's not much you can do with any cost effectiveness. Second, if you open the door slowly, yes that would help. but that's not the root of that problem. Houses seldom have good balanced air pressures. house are very tight by todays standards. you have fans/vents and dryers running in your house you are creating negative pressure in your house. Thus when you open the door you hear a sucking sounds. i would recommend an ERV. Energy Recovery Ventilator. google it. The ROI on putting one is about 7 years. But it solves (if installed correctly) the problem.
The "portal" problem is a common one.

Here's an engineer's view (not mine):
Your house is improperly oriented to prevailing winds. Jack it up and rotate it 90 degrees, build a new foundation under it and set it back down..... problem solved.

You are on the correct path by creating a small "mudroom" and porch. The issue is the setback towards prevailing winds, etc.
You would want to build outward, not just close off the space and then angle the door opening to the side so that new entrance does not align with the winds nor would allow for a place for detritus to settle. My next recommendation is to have the door at a 90 degree angle onto a covered porch.

Prop a broom in the corner. Works every time you use it and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Pretty soon sweeping will become second nature and you won't even have to think about it.

Leave the door where it is, but jack your house up and move it back 6 feet. That will eliminate the issue.
