2-2 on the season....now that it is over - feelings?

Jan 4, 2014, 11:57 AM

2 close wins, 1 close loss (tied going to 4th quarter) and a blowout.

we basically had a 4 game season. 2-2. That is actually better than I thought we would do. Hopefully this staff is learning how to close out and win big games. .500 in big games is about all you can ask for. We had the capability to run away from OSU last night, which is a first in a big game that I can remember. I really think we are trending the right way.

improved OL play and a running game that we can win games with is the next step to elite status IMO. Along with a shutdown CB.

The offense played great most the year. We will be fine with all our skill positions w the great recruiting over the past few years. I think the biggest part of us becoming an elite team is the defensive improvement. Venables has done a tremendous job! Our secondary needs help but last night they really won that game. 4 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, constant pressure, great on third down, Braxton miller probably had the most physical game of his career, he was one hurting buckaroo!

I'm feeling much better than I was before the year

I think we might actually have a defense that wants to play with a little P&V about them. I know Morris gets all the attention and the flash, but Venables is our most valuable coach.

He has come on very strong this year. I believe his recruits will shore up the defense even more. I like our future.

agree. BV doesn't get enough credit.

I have the feeling

That anyone who says this is a 4 game season has lost sight of enjoying football.

Its a dumb way to look at it, and its simply a way to express the season in such a way that you give zero credit for the coaches or team winning the other games.

Calling it a 4 game season is a compliment

Jan 4, 2014, 12:16 PM

It means that we have finally gotten to the point where there is clear separation between us and the teams in the lower to middle echelon of football.

But yes, if you didn't enjoy this year (beating UGA, NCSU, BC and MD the way we did) you are missing out on a lot.

seriously.

I celebrate when we beat Citadel or whoever. Saying I don't enjoy the wins because we had a "4 game season" just doesn't correlate. I enjoy them all (minus FSU/SC of course)

no. the other games were a formality IMO. It would have taken a major meltdown to lose to anyone. I will say the win in Raleigh concerned me because of the Thurs night road thing, but we were clearly better than them.

We won the games we were supposed to win - check.

We went 2-1 in toss up games IMo - check.

We lost to the only team on our schedule with clearly better talent than us (no shame in that) - check.

don't discount beating ga tech, BC and Maryland. Those

Three teams have been thorns in our side, regardless of record. We also haven't had a ### game against an inferior opponent in a while.

I would have been a lot happier if the 2 wins were against Fsu and coots, but beating Uga and osu ain't bad.

It is always great to win a bowl game especially the orange

its pretty sad that legit football discussion can't occur here....might help if the kool aid/glasses were removed.

anyone else in here capable of a subjective discussion?

i tell ya what - why don't you ask Crump if I am a coot. We went to school together our entire lives.

See if that will clarify anything for ya.

4 game season, that is a compliment to our program, right? We were expected to win the other games as we were infinitely more talented than they were.

I also believe our #3 ranking earlier in the year was well justified as we were one of a few teams in the country capable of winning games on offense, defense, and special teams. Our defense won the game last night. Special teams and defense won the UGA game. Our offense won a lot of games and also cost us 2 games.

We are a legit top 10 team now. We beat the teams we are supposed to. It hasn't been too long ago where that wasn't always the case.

a 4 game season isn't a knock. Its a sign of arrival. Alabama has a 1 or 2 game season every year. Does that demean them at all?
