1st and goal from 5. If we run, it's 2nd and 4, then 3rd

Sep 7, 2021, 11:13 AM

and 3, incomplete pass on 3rd. Same result.

It's easy to think another call might be better in hindsight. DJ is very slow with the first step running, gets up little speed so not much power.

Tajh was slow too.

Sep 7, 2021, 11:19 AM

But he wasn’t scared to run. It takes heart. I’m sure DJ has it. He’s just got to dig deep and find it. Maybe it takes desperation too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kinda wonder if he's not trying to protect himself

Sep 7, 2021, 11:20 AM

Clemson doesn't really have anybody behind him if he gets injured

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe.

Sep 7, 2021, 11:22 AM

But he wouldn’t really run the ball last year either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, but he actually was injured last year

Sep 7, 2021, 11:24 AM

He did run a little bit against BC.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seems like he got hurt vs Miami

Sep 7, 2021, 12:13 PM

iirc

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-fatherg-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DJ isn't scared to run.

Sep 7, 2021, 11:25 AM [ in reply to Tajh was slow too. ]

I think people forget that's all we used him for early in the season before he was pressed into starting the two games. I think it's way more a case of waiting far too long for something to develop downfield instead of seeing that crease and making the split-second decision to go when it opens up.

Re: DJ isn't scared to run.

Sep 7, 2021, 11:39 AM

He's also a grouper hair short of being 0-3 as a starting QB for us. He did lead us to a come from behind win against BC last year. I like DJU but as you point out, he better get quicker at reading a defense and move his feet to run this offense. Especially with our roller derby OL.

Time will tell I rectum.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if we're honest, that ND loss was on BV imo

Sep 7, 2021, 1:26 PM

He couldn't stop #### that game. And OSU game of course.

I believe you are honest.

Sep 8, 2021, 5:28 PM

I also believe you are wrong. Honestly wrong.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe. I value your wisdom, so I’ll hang up and listen.

Sep 7, 2021, 12:18 PM [ in reply to DJ isn't scared to run. ]

But running against the small schools when you think you need to prove yourself is big time different than when you’re starting and and you know you got to dig deep and gut out that 3rd and 6.

I hope he has it in him. But I’m still waiting to see it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hand it to Dixon.

Sep 7, 2021, 11:29 AM

1 carry for 10 yards.

They didn't even try.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was out for discipline most of the game

Sep 7, 2021, 11:34 AM

They weren't going to feed him after that. But I bet we'll see a lot of him in the next few games.

Re: He was out for discipline most of the game

Sep 7, 2021, 11:40 AM

Did the coaches expand on why? I can't seem to find it.

Grassy ####

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Haven't seen anything

Sep 7, 2021, 11:49 AM

Heck of a time for him to get himself disciplined

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure it was because he wanted to go in the portal...

Sep 7, 2021, 11:52 AM [ in reply to Re: He was out for discipline most of the game ]

Since he wasn't getting any carries.

To punish him for being wrong, they didn't give him any carries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I asked this question on another site and someone replied

Sep 7, 2021, 12:15 PM

when he made the 10 yard run, he did not follow his blockers (where he would have been held to one yard I bet), so the coaches were mad.

I hope this is not true, but why would they not give him the ball again. Most experienced runner gets one f'ing carry. I'd fire somebody.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-fatherg-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Half the game.

Sep 7, 2021, 2:04 PM [ in reply to He was out for discipline most of the game ]

Doesn’t explain him getting ghosted in the 2nd though. Stranger still is why I haven’t seen where any media have dealt asked him. DavidHood® Any inside knowledge on this one?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn’t see him until the 4th Q - he got that 10 yard carry

Sep 14, 2015, 2:49 PM

around end and was very involved in the backfield, calling out assignments and such.

HAD to be a case of him being in Dabo’s Love Shack.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Don't give the ball to Witherspoon

Sep 7, 2021, 12:05 PM [ in reply to Hand it to Dixon. ]

that will trick them!

Running against UGA was futile...

Sep 7, 2021, 2:13 PM

But we can't just toss it out altogether even if we know it won't work. By the 2nd quarter, it became clear we were going to try to Xbox-style throw our way out of it.

We have to at least make UGA think we're still going to go at them on the ground to keep pressure off DJ and WRs.

But playcalling, as some said, doesn't fix bad O-line play or bad QB decisions. A lot of blame to go around, but it's just one game and to a good team. They'll figure it out.

“ But playcalling, as some said, doesn't fix bad O-line play or bad QB decisions.”

Well, that’s just it….it can. Conversely, when done poorly, it can exacerbate those issues—-that’s what we saw Sat night.

dixon was in the game by then, 1 for 10***
