1983 Baloon release

Jul 30, 2018, 8:51 PM

In 1983 as most of you know Clemson made a new world record for most baloons released simultaneously.

At the time I lived near Ketshaw ,SC. We traveled to the game with friends and left our car parked near a public highway. Unbelievably some of those baloons landed near our car and some friends who knew where we were tied them to our car and they were there when we returned. Also, a few days later I found several more of them in the woods near our home. So they traveled 150 plus miles before they floated to the ground.

I was at that game also and have photos that I made of that unbelievable event. As I recall, there were numerous reports after the game of balloons found in Virginia and several other southern states. I also recall there was environmental concerns in those days 25 plus years ago! An unbelievable orange aura hung over DV that day as the sun peered thru the tens of thousands of orange balloons. Never see that again. Worlds record at the time

My junior year. My girlfriend - now wife and I blew up balloons starting at 6AM in DV. Stinking cold, but a great time.

When I got back to my dorm that evening there were 3 dead turtles by the door.

That game back in 1983 was truly special. I remembered going

to the game in my Air Force ROTC uniform. ( Clemson had a special blocked off section for us at that game). Properly the first and last time I did not had orange on for a game. Literally the sun got block during the balloon release. It was an amazing day.

After that school year I did not return back to school at Clemson. My grades was not that good and I was very undecided about what I wanted to do. I was also taking classes at Tri-County Tech at that time as well. Looking back that is my biggest regret in life. Not finishing school rather it was at Clemson or Tri-County or someplace else. For all of you young people out there...Finish college!!!!!!! :)
