Can anyone confirm if UGA has actually won a football NC?

The local dumpster operator is always wearing his “UGA commemorative natty shirt” he got as a student, but it’s so old and faded out I can’t make out any words or dates on it. Thanks.

I do remember UGA winning the NC in 1980 (4 decades ago). It is a distant memory for an old Tiger fan. But even a blind squirl finds an acorn every once in awhile.

I can confirm that Georgia won the Natty in 1980.

I've always found it interesting how weak the Georgia schedule was that year. They beat only 4 teams all year that ended up with winning records. Clemson and South Carolina were two of the best teams Georgia played in 1980. Their 1980 SEC foes went 5-6, 3-8, 2-9, 3-8, 5-6 with only Florida at 8-4 posting a winning record. On their way to a Natty, the Dawgs beat only 1 team that won 9 or more games and they beat FIVE teams who won 3 or fewer games all year.

(The next year Clemson beat 3 teams with 9 or more wins on our way to our first natty. In our Natty year of 81, we only beat 2 teams that won 3 or fewer games.)
