1975: Reigning Champ repeats after AP poll snoozes on them

Today's history lesson: AP Voters have been poor at their job for a loooong time now.
1. Oklahoma wins the 1974 AP National Championship
2. Not surprisingly, the Sooners are ranked #1 in the Preseason AP Poll
3. By Week 5, however, AP voters are no longer impressed, and drop them to #2
**Note: this came despite a 55-point win over Oregon, 36-point win over Top-15 Pitt team, and a close win on the road at Miami. It was almost as if Oklahoma faced impossible expectations.
4. Oklahoma eventually falls as far down as #7
5. Oklahoma beats two AP Top-5 teams in its last 2 games
**Note: Clemson will face two Top-5 teams in last 2 games if (when) it makes the CFP final.
6. AP voters gush over Sooners, crowning them back-to-back Champions after only 4 weeks at #1
**Note If (when) Clemson is ranked #1 in the Final Poll, there would be at least 5 previous Preseason #1 teams who went on to win the Natty, but were ranked #1 in fewer polls than us this year.
Kind of ironic that after last year's team was the first to win a Championship with a freshmen starting QB since Oklahoma's 1985 team, that we'd be comparing this year's Clemson team to yet another of Barry Switzer's Sooners. And, you guessed it, that 1985 OU team was also ranked Preseason #1, but never ranked #1 again until the final poll when they beat Penn State to capture the Championship.

why would we expect a bunch of people who have to enroll in the easiest majors in the college they attended (if any) to be able to analyze college football? These people are freaking stupid. We need to vote to simply eliminate the AP poll from existence.

To entertain fans until the real poll comes out.
Once the CFP begins weekly publication, absolutely no one will care about the other polls.
In fact .... once the CFP publishes, watch the other polls suddenly recalibrate and fall in line.

I wish college football would do away with the non CFP polls altogether. it's the only one that's relevant anymore.

To me your post seems to indictate that the AP is self correctimg and that the BCS and eventually CFP are unnecceessy.
