Young Gamecock recruit asks for advice, Tajh Boyd responds with life lessons

Former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd took to Twitter Thursday and sent out 16 life lessons that recruits and young college players can live by. Boyd, who always wants to give back to the community that he feels gave him so much, loves to help others. Full Story »

I just wish there were more young men like Tajh Boyd out there. First class.

He did say that he was responding to a coot recruit, and if that is so, why didn't he give the poor kid the best help and advice that he could have gave him. That advice should have been, son, do you remember when all those recruits were de-committing and leaving the gamecock FB program. Well they were taking the best advice that a smart someone was giving to them at that time, and I'm giving you that same advice before you ruin your life. De-commit from the Boom coach, and please never let anyone ever see you sitting in a seat on the Boom bus, bc your future could be lost at that point. Just turn and walk away, find a program that will help you be all you can be, and that program is no where close to Columbia. If you stay in Columbia, it is very likely that you could be one that will end up under the Boom bus next year making room for new commits they believe is better than you after your first year!!! Run son Run, you have to save yourself before anyone else can help you!!!

He was responding to a baseball commit... trying to give all young minds good advice from experience not sway everyones opinion into his own (for all we know he may not hold an offer to a better school). i thought it was thoughtful and well written from a guy I respect alot for what he does for these kids.

John Gilreath is my cousin. His dad went to SCAR but they are good people. Wishing he had chosen CU but was not in the cards.

Agreed 100%! I've had the opportunity to meet him through

Jul 2, 2016, 10:22 PM [ in reply to Re: New Story: Young Gamecock recruit asks for advice, Tajh Boyd responds with life lessons ]

a mutual friend, and the guy is who you see in front of the camera's. Nothing fake about TB10, just a genuinely good guy. I've had people argue that he wasn't that big of a get for us when he committed, but I loved his tape! Yes he had tons of talent with Sammy, Nuke, Ellington, etc., but he was a great fit and a competitor (LSU game being the obvious example with the beating he took, and was still running the ball...fitting a 4th and 16 throw into a tiny window...). Now I think most of us would agree that he was as big of a commit as we had-sans CJ, Watkins, or Anthony (Anthony and Steward in the same class really being the bigger story there if I'm not mistaken?).

I still think Tajh could play in NFL with

Jul 2, 2016, 8:38 AM

Right system and someone willing to work with him. However, if there is anything that there is no doubt he's a "professional" at its this. He's a great role model. I would love to see him be a motivational speaker that goes around to camps or a coach itself. He shouldn't do it for the money but in the meantime I hope he gets paid well for it. You made Clemson a better place than you found it and I'm so proud of how you represent yourself. God bless you Tajh, thanks for all you've done, and I wish you lots of success in whatever form it comes.

Re: I still think Tajh could play in NFL,,, LONG!!!

Jul 2, 2016, 1:43 PM [ in reply to I still think Tajh could play in NFL with ]

If Tajh would have been drafted in the early rounds, he would have had that time bc of the money they would have invested in him. Tajh's height, and the very bad receivers he had to throw to in the senior bowl may have killed any chances that Tajh had of being an NFL QB. That, and all the bad mouthing he got from Pauline. Second and third rounder QB's gets 10 times the amount of time to adjust to the NFL than Tajh has had or will ever have. For Tajh to make it in the NFL, he better be the 2nd best QB they have, and he better be that QB in just a few short weeks after arriving. Remember the pre season game that Tajh didn't get a chance to play in, and he couldn't have done any worse than what they had getting chances. Tajh had a very good work out with the Lions and they admitted that he did. They still wouldn't give him that chance that he badly needed.

Here, read for your self the athlete the NFL hasn't gave the time or a fair chance to, to become an NFL QB. With everything that Tajh has accomplished as a FB QB, ( http://www.clemsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205529382 ) if the NFL QB coaches can't make Tajh into a NFL QB, they have to be the sorriest, worst QB coaches in the history of any professional FB leagues around the WORLD.

IMO, there is no way Tajh could have done all the things he done in college, and not be good enough for the NFL if he was given time to get acclimated with a team. Tajh proved to me at least that he could play big boy QB in our bowl win against LSU. But my opinion won't get him a job or get him paid. But I serious believe that its a loss to some team/teams for not giving him the same chance as they would a second or third round drafted QB. Most of those QBs get a couple of years to prove that they can at least be an average back up to the starter, AKA Clip board Jesus, Charlie Whitehurst. Oh well, he will always be one of my Clemson greats, and the record books says he was also. CJ and Tajh were two of the best tools we had when Dabo began making Clemson into a Top 10 team. If I remember correctly, Buffalo Bills Chan Gailey would have been ok with ruining CJ's FB career also with the ways he insisted on using and not using CJ.

Tajh's arm help bring some very good WRs to Clemson, 2 of them were Nuk the Bomb Hopkins and Sammy Watkins, both were 1st round NFL picks. Tajh Boyd's arm and his ability to play QB help put those two in the NFL as 1st round draft picks, and they sure as h&ll didn't throw the ball to them selves. Some of those great catches they made that got them noticed was threaded to them by Tajh BOYD!!! I have and will continue to pray a ton that God will change his mind and let Tajh be the NFL QB that he has worked his butt off to be. Lord, let him be an NFL QB, or go a head and put him to doing what ever your plans are for him. It hurt me seeing Tajh getting his heart broke, and his hopes dreams being shattered. Help him Lord, it's more than just me that wants to see him playing in the NFL, Amen!!!

Re: I still think Tajh could play in NFL,,, LONG!!!

Jul 2, 2016, 5:41 PM

I hate it for tajh that he couldn't live his dream and be a NFL starting qb. I think every Clemson fan does. But it's not because the NFL qb coaches are the worst coaches. It's not because he didn't have a fair chance. There have been plenty of qb's that were drafted late that have gone on to have great NFL careers.

Tajh was outstanding in the Chad Morris system. Unfortunately, many high school qb's are great at running that system. It's probably the most common system run in most high schools that actually pass the ball. It's very easy to learn and execute. That's one reason for his college success and the huge numbers he put up. That's why those numbers are not looked at by NFL coaches. Remember timmy Chang for Hawaii? He set the NCAA passing record and didn't even get drafted.

Another reason he excelled at Clemson is because of Nuk Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, martavis Bryant, jaron brown and Adam Humphries, all NFL receivers. I know he threw them some great passes that were right on the money that helped them get to the pros, but I think they helped him more than he helped them.

Also, it was reported from both of his NFL training camps that he was really struggling taking snaps from under center. Obviously, this is something that has to be second nature to it qbs. It was also reported he was having trouble learning and executing the playbook. He had this playbook for months, not just a few weeks. And when he got his shot on the field, he didn't take advantage. When you add all of that up, it turns into a career change. Which is fine because tajh is such a great Clemson man he will succeed at whatever he does.

I love Tajh. That young man has a future. I am going to say this and you can hate it if you want. I hope he doesn't make it in the NFL. The NFL eats up young men and spits them out. I want him TO COME HOME. I can't imagine that he would not have a future in our football operations. Coaching, player development, whatever . He is such a bright, enjoyable personality, character above and beyond so many others and , here it is....
A CLEMSON MAN. sorry, Tajh, don't go to the NFL... come home please

We Differ In Opinion

Jul 2, 2016, 10:44 AM

Slightly differ. I do wish him success in the NFL or in whatever league in which his dream lies. After that dream is over, I do want him back in our program. He is too good an ambassador for Clemson not to be on our staff somewhere.

So much has been written about Tajh and his accomplishments, but what impresses me is how he represents at the highest level what it means to be a Clemson man. I'm sure Tajh will be a success at whatever he decides to do. Good bless you Tajh, and

Re: New Story: Young Gamecock recruit asks for advice, Tajh Boyd responds with life lessons

Jul 2, 2016, 11:30 AM

Tajh is still one of my favorites. He lived by those statements and some of the times I saw him doing the right thing when no one was around to notice was huge. He signed autographs for 3+ hours in 95 degree heat and not 1 time did he look like he wanted to be anywhere but right there. He is a great role model for these kids to emulate, humble, hard worker and a LEADER OF MEN. Favorite story was after movie night they had boarded the buses and could not find Tajh, he was picking up trash that some of his team mates had over looked. Had a huge game the next day and he is doing the right thing when no one would have known if he had not. Character is something that Clemson recruits must have just like the other skills that they use on the field. Thank you Tajh Boyd for being a Tiger!!!!
