BUTTTT I kind of enjoyed the shallow, mind-your-own-businessness of the place. No redneck idiots trying to get up in my business.
As for the shallowness and crowdedness, who gives a sh*t if you can enjoy the outdoors 365 days/year? Perfect weather, wide beach, great food too.
If APM was rich...

I don’t understand women in general, but I have found that ugly chicks work harder for you in bed. A lot of hot chicks act like they are doing you a favor and just lay there. Ugly chicks with good bodies or their counterparts, fat chicks with cute faces, are pretty much my sweet spot.
Does josephg live on the party side or the old folks side? My financial advisor is pushing me to Naples because he thinks I’ll get in less trouble. I’m leaning towards Miami though.

Holy helllll. That is not the type of club I was expecting. The food looks legit though. I’m going to stand out like a soar thumb and if I hook up, it better be with a waitress. I’m not into GILF. I can’t believe that out of all the pictures they chose this one to put on their website.

That’s funny. When they brought me in to talk about moving, I was told “there’s more to life than getting drunk with your buddies three times a week at Applebee’s.” Would be super ironic if I moved to Florida and hooked up with an Applebee’s waitress.

Highlands, NC Edisto Island, SC Boone, NC Hawaii (Maui, not Oahu) Zermatt or Grindelwald/Interlaken, Switzerland Marbella, Spain Gold Coast, Australia Belize (Caye Corker if possible) Athens or Delphi, Greece Amsterdam, Netherlands
Top pics would be Belize, Switzerland, or Spain probably. Locally, Edisto Island, then probably Boon (area) or Highlands (area).
Clemson is not on my list only because I don't recognize the place anymore. Would be on the list if it were still anything resembling the early 1990's Clemson. But really not sure with all the new money there, kinda ruins a place, like Mt. Pheasant/Sullivans/IOP, for example. Hence Edisto Island.

Its just too far from anything. Having lived through a few hurricanes..being that far from anything is going to causes long term issues with getting back to normal.
That and when I looked at having 4 spots and a gas station to go to lunch for the rest of my life, I bailed.

Like out in the middle of the country cheap.
I asked my realtor what was going on with it--did the whole place get downgraded to uninhabitable by FEMA or something? She couldn't find anything.
Once I get settled, I may buy an acre lot on the interior.

To see that the 4500 sq ft oceanfront place we used to rent barely cleared $1M when it sold. I imagine some just don’t want the seclusion, or the regime fee must be astronomical to keep the ferry going.

you can have 14 days a year (for cleaning fee only) at the island hotel, the "Huyler House".
They have two ferry's now, and at least two captains. The regime fee must be several thousand a month.

Nov 19, 2021, 11:15 AM

On the low end of net worth of the owners. Maybe I’m comfortable with the purchase price and regime fee when I buy in, but all it takes is one HOA meeting where they approve the Van Worthington’s proposal to buy a hovercraft shuttle and I’m stuck with a $50k assessment.

Just a little too secluded and limited in options for year-round living. It would be like the Truman show, seeing the same people and having the same options for stuff to do.
Much as I love T-ride, for year round living I’d pick Durango first, and Boulder second.

When we were seriously considering moving out there

In 2013 (had a realtor, took multiple house-hunting trips), we had settled on Evergreen. In the mountains, 45 mins from downtown Denver (with cooperative traffic), 30 mins to front range resorts. My son is still mad we didn’t move there.

unlimited resources - own a private island in the Caribbean, fly in to Clemson games on the weekends ">
with my current standing and resources - right 'chere on Lake Keowee in Oconee County SC. Clemson sports a 15 minute drive away. Boating, fishing, hiking, golf, all around. Dang near perfect weather (little rainy sometimes, but not complaining). Low taxes, no angry mobs or rioters.
Traveled and lived all over the USA, and it's hard to beat this area for year-round living.
#2 would be the bayous of Louisiana, the real backwoods. Such a cool place, basically untouched by modern man.

I'd definitely choose a new Charleston location if I could afford it. Happy where I am, but wouldn't mind a big ole beach house or something on the water.

There is, but...

Charleston's a place where you can really settle in to whatever community that's around you and not have to venture too far out of it unless you want to see something else or you have a work commute. It's long, straggling traffic, but nothing like a metropolis. So I write it up as a small inconvenience.
I think what makes it worse is our drivers seem dumber than most.
Aside from work, though, I've got almost everything I need around me with a short drive or a golf cart trek.

It's really not that big of a deal. It's only really bad if a moron does something stupid on one of the bridges.

Biggest issue is limited traffic options.
Nov 19, 2021, 10:08 AM
|

There might be 2 or 3 ways to get from A to B in Charleston, and they’ll all be clogged. For a trip of the same distance in Greenville there might be 10 ways, and at least 4-5 of them will be uncrowded.

it blows up traffic for the rest of the area. I've seen where James island traffic is backed up because the Cooper River bridge is blocked.

Yeah, highway 41@17 is not fun.

I used to live very near to that intersection, and I remember when they widened highway 17 to 4 lanes thinking how big of a mess it was going to be.
But yes, that's a pretty good description of it. The other day, I think I saw that kids cousin driving a brand new F-250 diesel that was lifted, had huge tires with stupid rims, and smoking up the place because it had been "deleted".

pretty wide range here from me
Nov 19, 2021, 8:58 AM

Rockies - Jackson to Big Sky...anywhere within a few hour drive would be sick.
Coast is a wide range...either move back where I grew up (GA coast) or Murrell's b/c I like the speed there.
For fishing, probably Melbourne to Ft Pierce FL. Just enough red neck and close to the stream and Keys.
I really like where I'm at now, but I'm sure the lust will wear off. Seems like a pretty ideal spot to raise a family, close to lakes and Appalachian mtns, awesome tax environment.
Pipe dream - when we were visiting Santorini, we rented a Polaris Raptor to cruise the island. Found a few farms right there on the Mediterranean....that seemed pretty ideal to me.
I'd like to live on the water, but the coasts are just too crowded. Living within a 2 hour drive would suffice and provide an opportunity to live on a larger tract of land.

One road over from where I live right now.
Nov 19, 2021, 9:47 AM

Walkable to the beach, restaurants and bars. Everything is either walkable or a short bike ride away. And 1.5 miles from the marina.
I only say one road over because We are on a road that is traveled to get to a shortcut to the marina and (when the road is fixed) Wild Dunes gate. One block over would take that traffic away. But even that traffic is only a pebble on a flip flop--a very minor nuisance. If I could buy the house I'm in right now within $300K of what I'm buying in Murrells Inlet I would.
That, or somewhere on the Atlantic side of Islamorada.

Italy, Switzerland, Spain, etc. In the US I agree with whoever said Big Sur. Or that general area of central Calif coast, Monterey, etc. Not just the scenery but the weather is the best I've seen anywhere. Year around, January or June... high 70, low 55... perfect.
