1 More Year + $10 Million Dollars

Apr 30, 2016, 10:43 AM

Hindsight is 20/20 but if you knew you were going to make $6 million in the next four years or $16 million in the next five years, what would you do?

There's so much risk involved in staying another year of college hoping for a higher draft grade. I think Vic Beasley understands this reality the best. Happy for all our Tigers and hoping for a massive new contract in four years for them. I really believe Mac will earn his if he stays healthy.

Mac has such a determination and will to succeed that he won't let anybody outwork him on the field or in film study. I agree that as long as he stays healthy he's gonna be a starter somewhere in the next few years, maybe this year.

Unless my family were filthy rich, and I had a silver spoon stuck up my butt, I would go to the NFL in a blink. It would be a no-brainer for me. How much money does one really need to survive thru life? Is $6 million really not enough? Really? Unless you're just stupid (I know - many are that way) and blow all your money on fast cars and women, etc. then the 6 mil should be plenty for anyone with half a brain. JMO.

They might end up with half of that after taxes, lawyers and agents.

I probably would also at their age

But now see it as a dumb move unless you get a 1st rd grade.

6mil not enough at 22 years old.

Apr 30, 2016, 11:06 AM

After taxes and taking into account you plan to live to 80 or so, that isn't nearly as much as it first appears. Of course it also depends on what you are able to do after football.

$100,000 is considered a really good salary

by us ax grinders. For 40 years, that's $4 mil.
Seems $6 mil should be good even if you have to
give an agent some.

I would have stayed to play for a NC and add the guarantee money! Taken out insurance $10 mil payable when I get the money!

People always assume these guys will go higher if they stay another year but that's not always

Apr 30, 2016, 11:16 AM

the case. Mac may have been an early 2nd rounder again next year.

TAKE THE MONEY. If you can't make 6mil last a lifetime......you prob can't make 16mil last. If the dreaded injury happens......try and make 0mil last!!!

This kind of speculation is understandable, but ridiculous.

Apr 30, 2016, 12:12 PM

Of course, if there were no other factors to consider, and one could know with certainty that one would for a fact make 16 million vs. 6 million, it would be insane to leave early.

In reality, there are often, if not usually, other factors to consider, and nothing is certain, or even close.

You graduate early so you can go pro early. It takes most people until they are late twenties to early thirties to earn a six figure income. You actually only net 30% of your contact account so being a conservative spender and observant investor is encouraged. Name one person in the world who wouldn't take $400k a year in their early 20s. Even after your career, if short, it gives you a nest egg and a chance to choose your career path. That's called freedom.

Problem is you don't KNOW either scenario happens.
