Not sure I've ever seen a definition of elite, but it matters in the context of this blog. From the material above, it suggest an elite program is one that elevates it's game through recruiting, coaching, and on-field play to participate in the CFP. If elite requires evidence of consistency (two or more CFP appearances), then teams like GA and Wash are not their yet.

Teams like AL, Clemson, OH St, Okla may qualify. If elite suggests you must also win a Natty, then only AL, Clemson, and Oh St qualify.

And what about the time element? Two out of three years, 2/4, 3/4?

Or is it just up to the sports analysts to label arbitrarily?

One this is sure, Tide and the Tigers are there and seem destined to stay. The others want to join but must prove their ability to win and stay in the fraternity.
