Regular reader for years, not sure if I have ever even posted. But I find this whole thing really interesting. So, let's say the 4 remaining P5 leagues enter some type of football only affiliation. (This isn't crazy or even an original thought as it was mentioned in The Athletic in the last few days). I have no idea what that might be, but clearly its purpose will be to reign in the SEC. That's a lot of teams to figure out schedules for. Would you be willing to give up the annual game with jr. to accomodate a game with a team within the affiliation? I think I would. We have established dominance over them for 100+ years, and it appears it will go for at least a few more. It proves nothing to beat them anymore, although it does my heart good. So, why play them any more? They just take away a possible more interesting game.
