Clemson commitment Sammy Watkins has been named the Fort Myers News Press offensive player of the year. The newspaper said Watkins "cemented his legacy as one of Southwest Florida’s all-time greatest football players with a spectacular senior campaign."

Watkins caught 54 passes for 1,268 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 266 yards and three touchdowns in his senior season. Watkins scored 8 of his 19 touchdowns in the playoffs including two game winners.

Watkins was also named the 2010 Broxson Award winner by the Naples News. The award is given to Southwest Florida's most outstanding football player.

Watkins finished his career with 123 catches for 2,987 yards and 35 receiving touchdowns, all Lee County records. He also ran for four touchdowns, threw for another and returned five kicks for scores.
