Clemson only signed two offensive linemen in the class of 2006. A big reason why Clemson only signed two was the number of prospects in South Carolina for 2007. Clemson identified Wilson Norris and David Smith from the upstate very early.
Norris and Smith had always dreamed of playing for Clemson so they wasted no time in pledging to the Tigers. Now the Tigers have almost a full year to work on landing 2-3 more offensive linemen. One player who is currently being evaluated is Airport's CJ Matthews. Matthews is drawing interest from schools like Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia, South Carolina, Minnesota, and North Carolina. Minnesota is school that does not pop up regularly in the state of South Carolina. "Minnesota does a really good job with their offensive linemen. When I watched them this year, they dominated people at the line of scrimmage. I think they led the nation in rushing." Matthews says he does not list a favorite at this time, but he does have some camps in mind. "I want to try and visit all of the schools on my list. I am not sure how possible that will be. My team is going to camp at Furman, and possibly Clemson and North Carolina." The Tigers will continue to pursue Matthews, and it is likely just a matter of time before the offers start rolling in.
