Height: 6-3 Weight: 190 Hometown: Columbia, SC (Richland Northeast HS) Class: 2007
As it has been well documented, the class of 2007 in the state of South Carolina is loaded. One player, who takes a back seat to no one, is Mark Barnes of Richland Northeast.
Barnes is explosive at 6-3 and 190 pounds. Barnes was key player in Richland Northeast's run to the state championship game. Barnes already has offers from both in-state schools and the national offers are starting to come in. "Clemson and South Carolina both offered me early. Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan have offered me. I am getting a lot of letters in the mail." Barnes could be a wide receiver or a safety at the next level, and it does not matter to Barnes. "I just love playing. I feel I am better at wide receiver. Most schools are looking at me as a wide receiver. I like having the ball in my hands." Barnes has developed a relationship with Clemson verbal commitment Willy Korn. "Me and Willy talk a lot. You could definitely say he is recruiting me, but so is Jimmy Clausen. Clausen has decided yet, but he wants me to the same school he does. It is pretty cool, because I think they are going to be the top two quarterbacks in the nation. Both guys are cool, and I just enjoy talking with them." Barnes says he is wide open right now, and he does not have time table for a decision.
