Alonzo Higgins - Linebacker
Height: 6-3   Weight: 230   Hometown: Greenwood, SC (Greenwood HS)   Class: 2005
ESPN: NR

Greenwood linebacker Alonzo Higgins may have had one of the most impressive weeks at the Shrine Bowl. Higgins showed great versatility all week at outside linebacker. The highlight for Higgins will not show up in the box score, but should not go unnotice.

Mohammed Massaquoi is one of the nation's premier wide receiver prospects. Higgins was in man coverage against Massaquoi and went stride for stride down field to prevent a big pass play.

"I knew I had to up my level of play, especially my speed. He (Massaquoi) runs like a 4.42, so I knew it would be a big challenge. The quarterback overthrew the ball a little bit, and I was able to break it up."

Higgins was the most versatile linebacker at the Shrine Bowl. Higgins was able to get great drops and pass coverage and was a brutal run stopper. If not for being a sign and place candidate, Higgins would clearly be listed as one of the top five players in South Carolina. Higgins still remains unsure of where he will be headed next year.

"I am not sure about official visits yet. I am going to call the coaches at Clemson, once I get back home and see what they have to say."

Higgins told us that he expects to know something on his future shortly, and it appears that the Tigers are the front runner to sign and place Higgins.
