How many times did you hear a little boy look up at his father, and say "Dad, one day I am going to run down that hill." For many players the recruiting process is about the best fit for each player, but for one player this process is about fulfilling a dream.

Channing Schofield, a defensive back from Wagner-Salley High, grew up a huge Clemson fan. "My Dad is a really big Clemson fan, like father like son. It is a very big dream of my one day to rub the rock and run down the hill."

Channing is still waiting on an offer from Clemson. "I missed my opportunity at the camp to earn an offer, because I played well but I didn't play to the best of my ability."

He has earned offers from South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, and says Maryland is close to offering. "Maryland wanted me to come to their camp, but I will not be able to make it."

Schofield expresses great gratitude for the offers he has received, but it is the Clemson offer he covets. "If Clemson was to offer I would commit, but right now I am leaning towards Wake Forest. Coach Grobe and his staff showed me a lot of appreciation when I went up their for a camp."

He expects to be the unquestioned leader of his team, and will earn his offer on the field. "I have been a starter since I was a freshman, and I feel it is my responsibility to be the leader on this team. My coach says I am not a vocal leader, but rather I lead by example on the field."

His goal is to make it to the state championships. "I feel if everyone steps in plays hard, follows my role, we have as good a chance as anyone to be playing in Williams-Brice."

He is not sitting around waiting on a handout, he is working very hard everyday. "I am in the weight room everyday, and I run everyday. As a matter of fact, I am fixing to go run now. I know if I work hard good things will come."

Schofield is very serious about his desire to be a Tiger. "If Clemson offered me even a partial scholarship, it would make my decision very tough. I would have to seriously weigh out all my options."

For every bad story like Willie Williams, there is a Channing Schofield who tugs at the heart, and makes everyone cheer for him as he chases his dream from a 1-A high school to Division 1.
