Five-star defensive end
Zacch Pickens out of Anderson (SC) Hanna committed to South Carolina Friday evening.
Pickens' mother, Felicia Harris, told TigerNet last Saturday - just six days ago - that they weren't close to making a decision. We’ve still got a little time right now. We’re concentrating on finishing up our year. This is our last ride. Coach (Jeff) Herron is an amazing coach, and I’m just curious to see how it’s going to go. He has a lot of things scheduled throughout the summer so it limits us from getting out. “Everybody is really good. We’re not going to be in a rush to make a decision. We’re going to enjoy the process. We’re going to observe and take our time.” That turned out to not be the case and the timing of this decision would seem to indicate that they knew during that interview that Pickens would wind up at South Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder from T.L. Hanna High is ranked No. 1 in the state and 14th overall nationally by 247Sports Composite rankings and is the No. 1 strongside defensive end for the class. He is No. 25 on ESPN’s Top 300 list for Class of 2019. Top D-Lineman at #TLHanna Zacch Pickens commits to the #Gamecocks @TLHanna_Sports @TLH_Football @foxcarolinanews pic.twitter.com/1PtN8PhObY
