Clemson’s late push was rewarded as four-star cornerback and top-100 prospect
Mario Goodrich announced that he’s signing with Clemson Wednesday morning.
Goodrich said during the announcement that he was impressed by Clemson's coaching staff during the recruiting process. "The coaching staff, I felt like I was at home when I went," he said. "The visit was terrific. The players and coaches are always happy. I had that feeling in my chest." The Top 100 recruit also thought highly of head coach Dabo Swinney. "It’s exciting. He’s a genuine guy," Goodrich said. "He cares about his players. They’re always at his house. He’s got an open-door policy. I just felt comfortable around him." "Dabo is the man. It felt like home when we were there," Goodrich's mom said during the announcement. During the end of the show, she even showed off her All-In chip. Goodrich was offered by the Tigers in mid-January and he made an official visit on Jan. 26. The Tigers coaching staff followed up with a trip to his school and an in-home visit shortly after. He becomes with 16th commitment of Clemson's 2018 recruiting class. The Lee’s Summit, Missouri, product was also considering Georgia and LSU heavily, where he also made January official visit stops. He originally committed to Nebraska but changed his mind after all the coaching changes with the school. #ALLIN @_MG3__ commits to #Clemson. #SigningDay #SigningDay18 #SigningDay2018 pic.twitter.com/B1QBJl8qE3 More on Goodrich... Mario Goodrich - 4-star CB - Lee’s Summit West HS (Mo.) Commit since: 2/7/18 Recruiter: Mike Reed Listed size: 6-2 180 Brings to Clemson: Goodrich’s film shows everything you like in a cornerback - he has good recognition on plays and is a strong tackler in space and fights for the ball. Goodrich shows the hustle to stay with the play and that accounts for his high number of passes defended (28 over the last two seasons). He also shows solid instincts on punt and kick returns, using his speed and agility to make some big plays. Depth chart fit: There is opportunity due to a trio of cornerbacks moving on and some position shuffling in the Clemson secondary. Competing for a starting role will require a big fall camp, but Goodrich could provide some depth in year one and gain experience for down the road. Number to know: 15 - Goodrich’s passes defended as a senior, totaling an interception and 14 pass breakups.
