Clemson, S.C.—Clemson placekicker Alex Spence has been added to the 2017 Academic All-ACC Team. Spence finished the season as Clemson’s second leading scorer with 68 points on nine field goals and 41 extra points. In the classroom the financial management major has a career GPA of 3.97.

After taking over for returning starter Greg Huegel, who suffered a torn ACL in September, Spence made seven of his last eight field goal attempts over the last seven games, including his last three from at least 40 yards. He made field goals of 44 and 42 yards against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, and a career long 46 yarder in the ACC Championship game victory over Miami (FL).

Spence’s selection gives Clemson eight players on the 2017 Academic All-ACC team, third among league teams and the most selections in one season in Clemson history. The other Clemson players who made the team are Travis Etienne, Justin Falcinelli, Sean Pollard, James Skalski, Will Spiers, K’Von Wallace and Christian Wilkins.
