Clemson's dominance on defense shows in the numbers.

Clemson is regarded as the fourth-best team in the country by two ESPN metrics.

The SP+ formula ($) has Clemson as an underdog on a neutral field currently against Alabama (+6), Georgia (+4.2) and Oklahoma (+3). In that predictive measure, Clemson is rated as the No. 11 offense and No. 6 defense, with a 61st-best special teams group. Also of note there, the Atlantic Division is rated as the worst Power conference division.

The Football Power Index has the same top-3 and Clemson as nearly a 5-point dog to Alabama (4.8) and around a point to Georgia (1.3) and Oklahoma (1.2).

According to that ESPN metric, Clemson is no longer a favorite to make the Playoff, however, with Oregon surging to a 42.3 percent shot, ahead of the Tigers at 39.6%, and trailing Alabama (74.7%), Oklahoma (71.9%) and Georgia (68.9%).
