Saturday night, and Swinney said that he hopes to have Watkins available next week.

Swinney told the media that Watkins’ situation was “scary.”

“Sammy was a little better today, and I am just hopeful that Monday his blood work will be back to normal,” Swinney said. “The guy practiced Tuesday and Wednesday, but was sick to his stomach. I thought he was going to practice Thursday, but they took him over Thursday to have a little blood work and it was just out of whack. It was really a scary situation. Very scary.”

He said he hoped Watkins’ is on the mend.

“Sounds like they have got things under control. We don’t really know what caused it, but I guess we will know more when they get all of that stuff back,” he said. “I don’t know if it was some kind of trauma or not. They think it was some kind of viral deal. Today, he seemed better and hopefully when we do some more blood work at the doctor on Monday everything will be back to normal.”

Swinney was asked what made the situation scary, and he said it was how the situation developed.

“Scary in the way the blood work came back. His levels were off, like the creatine levels and kidney function,” he said. “That stuff was not good. He was hurting in his stomach. Originally, they thought it might be acid that was creating pain for him. They did x-rays on him. He was practicing and pulling himself out and that is not Sammy. So we sent him over for testing and found out his levels were out of whack. It was a scary thing. I was expecting him back at practice, and they were calling and saying, ‘hey, we have a problem here.’ They do think it was some kind of viral thing that attacked him. Or some kind of trauma. “But there was no way they were going to let him get on that plane and come up here.”
