The Tigers have made an impression on a versatile play-maker.

2026 Carrolton (GA) defensive back Zelus Hicks received an offer from Clemson earlier this month. Hicks is regarded as one of the top safeties in the state of Georgia, as well as nationwide. He currently holds 29 offers, which include Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia.

Hicks has had the opportunity to build a relationship with the Clemson program following his freshman season, and an offer came his way from the Tigers.

“It has been a nice process,” Hicks said. “It started after I was a freshman, and I got to visit and talk to coaches. We have had a pretty good relationship throughout my high school career, and (Safeties Coach Mickey Conn) told me he was gonna offer me on June 1st, and he stood up to his word.”

When it came to his relationship with Conn, Hicks respects how much wisdom he has accumulated in his tenured career.

“He’s (Conn) a great guy,” said Hicks. “He’s got a lot of wisdom and has been in the college game for a long time. Our relationship is great.”

Conn’s vision for his position group has begun to materialize, and Hicks believes his versatility is the best asset to bring to the table.

“My game is very versatile,” said Hicks. “I’m a long and fast player. I can get hash-to-hash and play in the box if I need to, as well as making tackles. I’m an all-around athlete.”

As far as Hick’s timeline is concerned, he plans to announce his top 12 schools within the next week and make an official commitment before the season begins.

As the summer begins to kick off, Hicks wants to use the time to visit Clemson’s campus and participate in another camp. He confirmed that Clemson is right in the mix.

“The Tigers stand out,” Hicks said. “They definitely will be in my top 12. They stand out a lot.”
