Jones enjoys trip to Clemson, rehab a priority for big lineman

CLEMSON – Ninety Six offensive lineman Oliver Jones took in his second Clemson visit in three weeks this past Saturday, and said that Clemson is a place he is starting to feel comfortable.

Jones took in the Clemson and North Carolina basketball game, sitting beside Dorman offensive lineman Patrick DeStefano and head coach Dabo Swinney, and told TigerNet he had a great time.

“I really wanted to go back this weekend,” he said. “I really like it up there. I also wanted to see the basketball game, but I enjoyed seeing the coaches and getting to be back on campus. Clemson is a great place. And Patrick – that’s my boy. We get along great.”

Jones currently has two offers – from Clemson and South Carolina – and will visit Columbia next weekend. A trip to Georgia will be the following weekend.

Jones said he doesn’t have an official leader at this point, but Clemson holds a special spot for him.

“Clemson was the first one to offer me, and that means a lot to me,” he said. “Even though I had the injury last season, they offered, and that meant a lot. You will always remember that first offer.”

Jones tore his ACL and broke his femur during a Jamboree last season, so he didn’t play in the regular season. His head coach at Ninety Six, has said he will keep Jones out of spring practice in order to have him ready for the start of fall practice.

“It won't take me that long to get back to where I was before I got hurt,” Jones said. “I heard stories about guys that were injured, and they were saying they wanted to get back out there, and it’s true. Standing on the sidelines last season makes me love Ninety Six football even more, and I am going to do my best for them while I am out there. I want to be ready by mid-July.”
