is beginning to heat up, and Stanley told TigerNet Tuesday afternoon that he has tried to contact Clemson coaches.

Stanley is a 6-4, 225-pounder who was involved in a four-way battle for the starting job along with Randall Mackey, transfer Barry Brunetti and Zach Stoudt this spring, but slipped down the depth chart and made the decision to transfer.

Stanley said he has had interest from over a dozen schools, including teams at the FCS [Division 1-AA level], which include Montana, Montana St. and Eastern Washington.

He said that Clemson’s hire of new offensive coordinator Chad Morris prompted his interest in Clemson.

“I have a big interest in Clemson because I think I would be a good fit,” Stanley said. “There is definitely a lot of interest there, but I am not sure that Clemson is the perfect fit for me because I would have to sit out a season.”

NCAA rules stipulate that if a player transfers from one FBS school to another, the player must sit out at least one season before resuming play, but if he drops down a level he could play immediately.

“I love the offense they run there,” he said. “But I am just not sure about having to sit out a year.”

Stanley said he has yet to connect with Morris or any of the Clemson coaches.

“I have tried calling them a few times,” he said. “And they have tried calling me a few times, but we haven’t been able to talk yet. I have been busy.”

In 2010, Stanley was 17-for-32 for 261 yards and three touchdowns for the Rebels. In 2009, he was 11-for-23 for 163 yards and a touchdown.
