Where Clemson ranks in the first 2024 Coaches Poll |
Clemson’s Tigers have their starting point in one of the traditional college football polls.
The Clemson football team begins outside of the Top 10 for the first time since 2015 with a No. 14 ranking in the Coaches Poll. It is Clemson's lowest preseason Coaches ranking since 2014 (16th). The Tigers were No. 12 preseason in 2015 before playing for the school's first national title since 1981. Clemson was ranked No. 9 preseason last year and finished No. 20 in the Coaches Poll. Clemson starts with No. 1 Georgia in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on August 31 (noon/ABC). A road trip in early October, Florida State paces the ACC, at No. 10, with Miami (19) and NC State (22) also in the Top 25 from the league. The poll’s Top 25 format stretches back to 1990 and began with a Top 20 form in 1950. The 12-team Playoff, based off of the Coaches preseason ranking, would be Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Utah (last champion bye), Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Memphis (Group of 5 spot). Dabo Swinney is again not listed among the Coaches Poll voters. The preseason AP Poll will be released next Monday. Coaches Top 25 1. Georgia (46 first place votes) 2. Ohio State (7) 3. Oregon 4.
