When reporters show up to talk to the Fox Creek senior quarterback, the 2010 Aiken Standard Offensive Player of the Year often asks his coach if they can interview somebody else. The recruiting calls - both from coaches and recruiting services - have become so overwhelming, Williams often just presses the ignore button on his phone. All Williams wants is to play football, whether or not anybody is watching.

That's why the Week Zero matchup with Branchville on Friday was such a welcome sight for Williams. For the first time since last November, all he had to worry about - at least for a few hours under the lights - was football.

"As soon as I got out there, I forgot about everything else," said Williams. "It sort of cleared my mind a little bit. I just tried to play my game and do the best I could."

If he was looking to keep quiet and deflect the attention, though his performance didn't help. When the smoke cleared on an 18-0 win over Branchville, Williams ended up with 287 yards rushing and three touchdowns to go along with 142 more yards through the air on 7-of-12 passing.

The 429 total yards in which Williams played a part was more than most squads accomplished as a team in Week Zero and worthy of the Aiken Driving Academy/Aiken Standard Player of the Week award.
