Former Clemson safety getting first-team reps at CB

Indianapolis Colts second-year defensive back T.J. Green had 43 tackles at the safety position in his rookie year with the team. However, despite his blazing speed, Green's future might not be at safety. With the addition of first-round pick Malik Hooker from Ohio State, the Colts have a surplus of talented safeties with Green, Hooker, Darius Butler and Clayton Geathers competing for only two spots.

The Colts are trying Green at cornerback in training camp this week to try to get him more of an opportunity on the field this season. He was getting first-team reps at cornerback at practice on Tuesday.

“I’m all for it,” Green said via ESPN. “I don’t think it’s a one-day thing. I feel like I can play the position. They want me out there.”

Green is willing to try the position move if it means playing time.

“It was exciting to me,” Green said. “[Pagano is] trying to get me on the field. Whatever it takes to get me on the field, I’m going to do.”

Green thinks that he can be a decent cornerback in the NFL.

“I feel like if I put the work in, work on the details -- I know the playbook," Green said. "I can already play fast, just work on the technique part. I feel like I can be a solid corner in this league.”

Green started out as a wide receiver in high school, moved from receiver to safety at Clemson, and now it looks like he could successfully transition to cornerback. His bonafide speed translates well at any position even in the NFL.

He was a selected by the Colts in the 2nd round (#57th overall pick) out of Clemson in the 2016 NFL Draft.
