Clemson safety out for season with injury |
Clemson coach
Dabo Swinney said on his call-in show that junior safety
Lannden Zanders is out for the season with a shoulder injury.
Zanders was injured during the Georgia game Saturday and only played five snaps. He had surgery in the offseason on the same shoulder after missing time last year. "He's going to go ahead and do surgery so he'll be out for the rest of the year," Swinney said. "That's going to be a long-term injury. I hate that for him. But in the long run, it may be the best thing for him. He can use this as a redshirt year and come back better than ever." Zanders entered 2021 credited with 55 tackles (five for loss), three sacks, four pass breakups and a sack in 506 defensive snaps over 24 games (nine starts). "Did not picture this season ending this way for me. I love the adversity and doubters. I will be a better version of my self next year, time will tell," Zanders posted on social media Monday. Freshman Andrew Mukuba started and tallied eight tackles and one pass breakup against Georgia. Jalyn Phillips started on the other side. 2020 second-team All-American Nolan Turner missed the game due to injury. "We'll get Nolan (Turner) back," Swinney said. "Hopefully the experience that Mukuba got -- Jalyn Phillips played well. Joseph Charleston played well. Fortunately, that's a position where we have depth. (RJ) Mickens and Tyler (Venables, we've got a great group." Did not picture this season ending this way for me. I love the adversity and doubters. I will be a better version of my self next year, time will tell. Jeremiah 29:11.
