Clemson OL out for the season

Clemson redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Blake Vinson will be out the remainder of the season with a patella injury. He will have surgery to fix the tendon.

Dabo Swinney shared the injury news during his Tuesday press conference.

"We are going to go ahead and do surgery on him so he will miss the rest of the year with the patella injury," Swinney said. "They are going to go ahead and fix that ligament on the side of his knee cap just so he doesn’t have to deal with this. Go ahead and do it now, so he is ready to go and fully recovered and ready to go for spring practice. I hate that for Blake."

Swinney said that Vinson could get this year back.

"The good news is with the new rule he can get this year back because he redshirted as a freshman," Swinney said. "The new rule now is if you redshirted as a freshman if you lose a year for medical purposes you can actually get that year. So technically he could have a sixth year if he wanted it, so that is a good thing for him. Obviously, hate that he can’t play the rest of this year. (Will) Putnam who played a lot this last week who was already going to play this year but this gives him more opportunity to get in that mix."

Entering the 2019 season, Vinson had played 79 snaps in 11 games.
