I've seen posts saying that these new hires are career killers for Pat Kelsey and Shaka Smart but I would disagree. Sure, they could have taken some big time jobs, but they have track records of success at smaller mid-majors. They could continue having that same success at these more basketball oriented schools without the pressure of the blue-chip programs. It's a smart move on both their parts for the immediate future of their careers and the longevity.
Smart could see he was only one more bad season from getting the horns at Texas. This is a good move from him, as he has a better chance to start over there with a fresh slate and if wants to in a few years move on to another school. He won't have to have "terminated" on his resume!
