Freshman Marcus Tate crushes competition, stands out in spring game

Marcus Tate is easy to spot in a crowd of regular-sized people, his 6-6, 290-pound frame enabling him to tower over most of Clemson’s students. On Saturday in Death Valley, in a crowd of people his own size, he was also easy to spot. He was the one delivering crushing blocks to the opposition. Full Story »

He was definitely a stand out during the spring game. Now,

hopefully under Caldwell’s tutelage he does not regress.

Love McFadden - our top lineman in 2020 and easily top 2-3 in 2021. Size wise McFadden is an NFL guard and he may have the talent to play in the league. Dabo has options to improve the line especially if Tate and Leigh can get in the rotation early.

Agreed, and I think Parks will wind up being the best of the bunch, maybe even the best of the Dabo era when it's all said and done. He has that kind of ability.

While we haven't seen Leigh yet, the star rating suggests he should give us almost instant ability and make at least 2 deep even being a freshman. Too bad he wasn't a midyear.

I almost forgot we having Leigh coming in this summer to join the group. He should push to contribute as well. Go Tigers!

With McFadden, Tate, Parks and Leigh coming in...

Were are set at OT for a while. Feels good.

No doubt in my mind the O-line will be much better this year.

No doubt. Tate is a very pleasant surprise. By the time late season gets around, Tate and Leigh should both be able to contribute significantly. Tate maybe even depth in the first game.

Maybe if too much time wasn’t spent cross training, O-Linemen could actually develop instead of hitting their ceiling by year 2.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

I wondered about that as well.
Gotta figure the staff knows what they're doing.
I would surely think so.

Interesting thought

When first reading your post, I instantly disagreed in my mind.

After further thought, you may have a point. The main reason I agree with cross-training is we traditionally don't have spare studs on the O-line. Because of this lack of solid depth, versatility is required to get the 5 best players on the field.
