Bockhorst looking for more out of his offensive line
Left guard Matt Bockhorst faced the media following Monday’s practice, and his usual smile turned into a world-weary look as questions about the performance of the offensive line last season mounted. Tackle Walker Parks was asked about the play of the offensive line last week, and he said the performance “pisses me off.” Full Story » |

Bockhorst and his mates are making all the right noises, but

none of that will mean anything until we see how they respond to being challenged on the field of play. I sincerely hope those leopards CAN change their spots.

Obviously. It's March. What do you want him to say?

No need to point out that the season hasn't started yet; we're all aware. I'm encouraged that they're mad and want to do something about it. They did NOT have that mindset last year. That combined with the best O-line class we've ever had being a year older and hopefully contributing this year and I'm optimistic.

Bring back the "Beard Gang" mentality, in fact, get Jeff Bostic to come in and coach the guys on what it was like being part of a dominant O-line in the NFL. Bring in Joe as well.

Actually not a bad idea. Them guys had that nasty streak like parks.
A little surprised this article didn't touch on Bockhorst's statement on Rayburn. It was mentioned in a tci article that Hunter is definitely showing up and showing out at center this spring. That's good news. I think it'll be a much improved area... If not, with the talent we've recruited, then you might have an argument on development. The rating power vs development has actually been quite good... Now we get to see how much that star rating coming in makes a difference.

I think Robbie Caldwell is a great guy, a great Clemson man. But we have consistently underperformed at this position for too long now. We have had some GOOD O-Line talent come through our recruiting, but failed to develop our O-linemen as well as we have in other positions. We have had great running backs and quarterbacks stifled because of this lack of consistent grit. I hate to say it but an ol Vanderbilt interim coach doesn't provide the sea-change we are going to need to actually win a Sugarbowl when it counts. Elite HS QB's are very sensitive to who will be protecting their future, let's nip this in the bud before it becomes a long-term issue.

Ok, I will say it then...is he wrong? I actually think he is spot on. Caldwell has been good in many areas. But forget across the nation, we rarely have the best O Line in the ACC.. I truly believe that and our DE development the last couple of years has been what had set us back a smidge.

was play calling. When you are not blocking well enough to get any yards to speak of why in the world would you call 3 running plays in a row and face another 3 and out. Finger pointing can go beyond the offensive line even though at times they looked like they were blocking in high heels.

IMHO Bockhorst is at the front of the line for performance evaluation

I would like to see coaches move McFadden or Mayes inside from RT by mid-season and put one of our less athletic & aggressive guards 2020 guards on the bench. Upperclass O-linemen who don't produce vs. UGA in game 1 can best help Clemson’s playoff drive as a backup by supporting our younger players prepare for the ACC championship and playoffs. The ACC regular season has become like the NFL pre-season - practice scrimmages for the games that matter. Will be interesting to see how the coaches address ...
