I don't think that once a player becomes a professional he can revert to amateur status. This sounds like someone we wanted who went somewhere else.
The writer's comment about the subject player being an upgrade from our present backup doesn't help the confidence of our QB bench, though.

I have heard rumblings of Austin Kendall, who is out of NC. I believe Clemson offered him out of high school.

That's good. Glad to hear it. After the updated baseball news on Bubba, appears he can write his own ticket and check for MLB. They're drooling over getting someone with his skill set.
From the way the baseball analyst are giving his credentials, kinda like baseball version of Trevor... I'd love to see someone like him at one point in my life actually come to Clemson and play baseball...

Jarrett Guarantano was the worst QB in the SEC last year and the year before that . Hopefully we’d go with what we have now over him

I don't think he's terrible, at least not from the standpoint of a backup quarterback while keeping in mind we wouldn't be likely to have a major stud transfer here to be a backup. He has 38 career touchdowns compared to 17 interceptions, and that was while playing on some really bad Tennessee teams.

I am 99% sure that the potential transfer is Austin Kendall. One of the reported factors in the decision for the QB is that he has already entered the work force and would have to walk away from a very good job to join the tigers...
PER HIS LINKEDIN PAGE- Austin Kendall was hired in March of 2021 as a Physician Account Executive at Quest Diagnostics in Dallas, Texas.

If it is him, you almost feel like they'd have to guarantee him some type of job after this year if it is him, at least I would want to know where I'm headed once the season is over.

If this is the case, the coaches must know that one or more of the new guys are going to play baseball instead and won't be attending Clemson.

As Dabo has always said "next man up ".Some might disagree but I have confidence in Hunter Helms.When he played last year he was calm,cool, and collected.If he fails to deliver then next man up again.

We need more backups than Hunter who can take over in an emergency. What if we have a COVID situation or another injury?

We have a back-up in Hunter Helms. He can handle the team for a few plays or even an entire game against a lesser opponent.
If we lose DJ for any length of time, no one we find through the transfer portal is going to make us a CFP contender.
The really good QBs looking to transfer are not planning to move for a back-up situation.
The last time we took a back-up transfer (from Stanford) he never contributed at all.
