Overview: Late addition to the 2009-10 freshman class played the most minutes out of Clemson's four newcomers in his first season...possesses an outstanding three-point stroke and ability to score the basketball...has the potential to help the Tigers defensively on the wing, as he gains experience in Clemson's system...a capable rebounder as well...played in all 32 games as a freshman, with two starts...will be counted on to provide more minutes this season due to the graduation of David Potter, Clemson's starting small forward in 2009-10...earned the Tiger Strength Award as a freshman due to his enthusiasm and pride in relation to strength & conditioning...added 10 pounds of muscle in his first six months at Clemson...comes from a basketball family...father, Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson, was a Hall of Fame player for Wichita State from 1976-79 and scored over 1,900 points in his career with the Shockers...played for the Golden State Warriors in 1979-80...godfather, Xavier McDaniel, was also a standout for Wichita State, and went on to enjoy a long career in the NBA...played AAU basketball with the Atlanta Celtics, the same club that produced 2010 ACC Rookie-of-the-Year Derrick Favors, who played at Georgia Tech.
In 2009-10: Appeared in all 32 games as a shooting guard/small forward, with two starts in December...averaged 14.8 minutes and 4.8 points per game, both highs among Clemson's four-man freshman class...fourth on the team in three-point shooting with a 36.7 percent accuracy from behind the arc...made 29-of-79 threes as a rookie...shot 73 percent from the charity stripe in limited trips...was sixth on the team with 25 assists...chipped in defensively with 13 steals and six blocked shots...reached double figures in the scoring column in four games...scored at least two points in 25 of the team's 32 games...averaged 9.0 points per game in Clemson's postseason contests against NC State and Missouri.
Best Games of 2009-10: Scored season-high 13 points in non-conference win over SC State...hit 5-of-9 shots overall (3-for-5 from three-point range) in the win over the Bulldogs...scored ACC-high 12 points in first-round tournament game against NC State...hit 4-of-5 from three in just 16 minutes against the Wolfpack...posted 12 points in season opener versus Presbyterian, then again ten days later against Winthrop...made 4-for-8 from three against the Blue Hose...scored six points and added four rebounds in 10 minutes versus Illinois in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge...tallied six points against Furman and East Carolina...scored seven in his first career start, a Dec. 19 game against College of Charleston...tallied seven points and three steals in home win over Boston College, followed by six points in home rout of North Carolina...posted seven points and two assists in win at NC State...hit 4-of-6 shots and recorded nine points, with season-best five assists, at Boston College...hit 3-of-5 shots, including 2-of-3 from three, for eight points at Maryland...notched six points in 15 minutes in the NCAA Tournament loss to Missouri.
