Because he's a terrible coach that should have been fired years ago.

We had no timeouts....and would have had very little time left even if they didn’t convert. Extending the game with a bad FT shooting team might have been a slower painful death...but we would have had a chance.

Yeah they are but I think not scoring a basket the last 4 minutes did us in. Rutgers is a scrappy team.

Because we only had 5 fouls. If they had fouled them, they just take the ball out. We would've had to found them 3 times to get them to the foul line. The decisions was close to working until the ball bounces right to their guy once again. Happened all night.

If we had 5 fouls, we would have had to foul twice, not three times. So what? It takes 1 second to commit a foul. And forcing them to inbound the ball multiple times also creates more opportunities for a turnover.

We would've also been putting the worst P5 free throw shooting team in the country in a one and one situation. I don't consider myself to be a Brownell hater, but deciding to not foul there really confused me. The announcers had even brought up the Rutgers poor free throw shooting earlier in the game, and how that could come into play in a close game in the final minutes.

The other cool thing about wanting to foul...

If you’re really smart, you can actually try aggressively to steal the ball. Maybe you’ll get the ball! And if they call a foul...oh well, that’s what you kind of wanted anyway.
I’m no basketball genius. But....I stayed at a Holiday Inn once.

Here’s the problem....

If everything works out perfectly and they miss with a second left on the shot clock....you only have 6 seconds at the most with no timeouts to come down and get one shot...assuming the team that has been out rebounding you doesn’t get the board. We needed time. Even if they made FTs...we would have at least had time for multiple possessions. Be very aggressive...foul...then they inbound it...then be aggressive and foul again. Instead we let a good 15-20 seconds pass before sending a trap to their PG. If we had a timeout or more time...it would have been fine to play it out defensively. But not in this case.

Biggest coaching mistake tonight.

Our team was not shooting well in final minutes, Rutgers is one of the worst foul shooting teams, and we could have spent the last minute in free throw contest when it was within two in final minute.
