Doubtful. Unc likes to play big men. Although their outside shooting is similar.

UNC probably had Roy’s replacement in their pocket for couple years When you falter for two years in a row you are out at UNC whether you are Matt Dougherty or the great Roy Williams this was no planned retirement How long would Brad have lasted at UNC with his record they take basketball serious at UNC not just a sport to get you thru the winter to football

No way UNC asked/encouraged Roy to retire now.

He is a hall of fame coach and has won multiple national championships as well as conference championships. UNC had a disappointing year last year, and even this year by their standards, but he has earned the right to stay at UNC as long as he wants.

This is more about him being 70 and wanting to enjoy retirement.
