DURHAM, NC – In the big inning, Clemson creates runs and wins.

For the second consecutive day in the ACC Baseball Championship in Durham, second-seeded Clemson used a big inning in dispatching an opponent, riding a six-run sixth to defeat Miami 7-1 and advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Clemson scored five of its six sixth-inning runs with two outs. Drew Wharton led off the inning with a home run, breaking a game that had been deadlocked at 1-1 since the fourth. Wharton’s shot was loud and long, landing on the roof of a restaurant beyond the left field wall. A slew of singles and a three-run bomb by Chris Williams gave Clemson all the runs it needed.

Ryan Miller pitched the final four innings and picked up his sixth win of the season.

Wharton had two hits and scored two runs, while Williams added the RBI. Seth Beer and Kyle Wilkie had two hits apiece.

Clemson improves to 45-13 while Miami falls to 28-26. The Tigers put themselves in prime position to earn a national seed when the NCAA Tournament pairings are announced next Monday.
