Clemson RHP named freshman All-American

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson right-handed pitcher Spencer Strider was named to the Collegiate Baseball freshman All-American team on Wednesday.

Strider, who also earned All-ACC freshman honors, was valuable for the Tigers' pitching staff out of the bullpen and in the starting rotation, finishing with a 5-2 record and a 4.76 ERA. He led Clemson with 70 strikeouts in 51 innings.

The Knoxville, Tennessee native filled in as a starter late in the season, including earning a win at Pittsburgh to close the regular season in five innings of the work - dealing seven strikeouts.

Strider became the first Tiger pitcher to earn freshman All-America honors since 2013 (Matthew Crownover).
