Mickey,

So the first thing to say about the Josh Belk situation is that just as kids chose where they want to go to school, they can also chose whether or not they stay at that school. What is very strange to me though is the reason, or non-reason, for Belk to decide to transfer and then the reason that an attorney is speaking for him. If there is a family situation that requires more of his time at home then I must be looking at a very old map because Athens is further from Lewisville than Clemson is. Whatever the story and wherever the young man winds up, I just hope he gets his education and is happy.

As far as both Josh Belk and Hunter Johnson go, they seem to join a growing number of athletes that transfer rather than sit on the bench. One of the goals of any major college team in any sport is to recruit as many quality athletes as they can and Dabo certainly does that. The downside to that is there are still only 11 football players on the field, only 5 basketball players on the court, only 9 baseball players on the field and on and on. There is a huge difference between success in High School and success in college and a big part of that difference is realizing that in the majority of cases, the player will no longer be the best player or the center of attention. If Clemson continues to have success recruiting and winning then I think we should get accustomed to players leaving because that is what they do to seek playing time, fame and fortune and if they find it there is nothing wrong with that.

Andy

Andy,

First, the entire Belk situation smells fishy. My gut tells me there are a lot more questions than answers. Don’t be fooled by the diversionary talk of Belk to UGA or Alabama or Tennessee. He is going to South Carolina.

The transfer trend is concerning. Roster management is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, many programs will get caught and have a higher chance of having a down year due to injuries, transfers, etc. The game is hard, but those factors make it extremely difficult. Maintaining stability has become much more difficult. The only answer is to recruit at a high level every year.

I know we all want to think Clemson is immune to 8-4, but with a few bad evaluations, injuries and transfers this could happen. It is going to happen at some point. I hope that that day is farther down the road.

Mickey, my wife and I listen to all the Clemson Baseball games on solid orange Clemson Tigers network- tigercast through the phone since radio in our area of Lexington S.C. is weak. Please tell me our acc games will still be available this Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks in advance.

James and Sally

James and Sally,

Yes, those games will be available. In fact, every game will be available. Like you, I listen to the app often when out of radio range.
