Mickey,

Too often, I and many fans get caught up in how our favorite team in any sport finishes the season and overlook the bigger picture of what was accomplished. An example right now for Clemson fans is to not be disappointed in the baseball team neither winning the ACC nor being picked as a top 8 national seed. I admit I do not understand what criteria is used to determine seeds but understand that North Carolina beat NC State 3 of 4 and NC State swept all 3 games from Clemson and that, for me, is enough even though Clemson had a much better overall record than Carolina. The good news is Clemson hosts a first-round regional and if we win, get a chance for revenge against Florida State if they win their regional.

So while sitting home watching Bryson Nimmer try to come back and win the NCAA Individual Golf Championship, I reflect on what a tremendous athletic year it has been for Clemson. Both the men's and women's soccer teams made the NCAA tournament, both the men's and women's golf teams made the NCAA tournament, the women's tennis team made the NCAA tournament, the men's basketball team made it all the way to the Sweet 16, the football team made the Playoffs and the baseball team still has a chance to win it all and I probably left a team out. It is so special to win a championship in any sport but compare the overall results of all sports and the academic records of the athletes at Clemson to those at any other school and we should not be disappointed. Wow, what a great 2017-18 for these student-athletes at Clemson and I hope all Tiger fans are proud of these teams, I know I am.

Andy

Andy,

It is a breath of fresh air to read from someone who has perspective. It has been an amazing year at Clemson. I can’t remember it being any better than this. I hear good things from both soccer programs. I hear great news coming in women’s basketball. Women’s golf is improving at a rapid rate and great players are coming. Men’s tennis is on a good trajectory. Baseball has another terrific class coming in. And we all know football has never been better. What a great time to be a Tiger!

Hey Mickey!

Is there any chance someone like Xavier Kelly, who is at least 270 if not bigger, could make the move inside to DT to help with the depth there after this year? It seems he is kind of lost in the shuffle with all of the elite talent at DE and could be a big asset along side Pinckney in the middle in 2019.

Thanks,

Chase

Chase,

I think a couple of those defensive ends could move inside if they continue to get bigger. I am not sure what the max size potential is for that unit, but they have depth at DE and the lack of depth at DT is a concern. They will watch a few of those guys’ size and if they can be moved inside that might happen. However, I don’t know who would be that fit at this time.

Apparently Josh Belk's reported home issues have cleared up very quickly as he is considering his playing options that include several SEC schools. Do you think Dabo handled this correctly and will Belk have to sit out a year before being eligible to play?

Don't you believe in personal responsibility for decision making even for young players? Is there a back story to Belk that has not been reported?

William

William,

Don’t buy the diversion. Belk is going to South Carolina. The only story here is that he is a Gamecock and wanted to be a Gamecock. He was not happy here and will be happier down there. Yes, Dabo did the right thing. If they don’t want you, then let them go.

Mickey,

There has not been much to complain about in the area of football recruiting. I am disappointed about some of the transfers (the Belk situation just seems extremely odd). It seems that with the recent verbal commitment of Pickens out of T.L. Hanna that Clemson has missed on the two top prospects out of Hanna (DE/TE Wynn and Pickens).

Given this is just a verbal from Pickens and things can change, why is Clemson not seeing recent success recruiting Hanna? (Yes, Boulware and Bryant were great Tigers in previous years.)

Both Pickens and Belk should be in orange, just my opinion.

Thanks, love the show.

Cory

Cory,

Clemson recruited Wynn but didn’t recruit him hard. I think the staff likes Pickens, but couldn’t get him. Who else has come out of Hanna that Clemson has missed on? Clemson is ranked fifth in rivals.com so far for this class. I don’t think the staff is in panic mode quite yet.
