Yesterday we got more surprising news when DJ Reader decided to take a leave from football. At this point we don't know how long he will be out or if he is coming back at all.

said this was Reader's decision and didn't sound too happy about it.

It came as a surprise after Reader had gotten positive reviews throughout the summer and camp. He was one of two players Swinney decided to take to the ACC Media Days in Pinehurst earlier this summer. To the outside eye, it appeared Reader was one of the leaders of this team.

He will be missed, but this is why you recruit every year. It is now time for Carlos WatkinsCarlos Watkins

to step up.

Clemson will enter the first game without defensive tackles from last year like Jarrett, Williams, Watson and Reader. That is a lot of talent. Fortunately, there is a lot of talent still here.

A senior will be missed. A talented player will be missed. A leader will be missed. What this also means is that depth is more of a concern now. Injuries could be devastating.

Because the release was vague, we have more questions than answers. This one caught me completely off guard. I wonder what lead to the decision? I wonder how long he will be out? I wonder if he will be back at all?

There are more questions than vague answers, but the one answer here is always to continue to recruit and that is what this staff has done.
