Hi Mickey,

Enjoy reading your Blog. I have a question about Rugby Style Punting.

We seem to do Rugby Style occasionally and it works well and seems effective. I recall the first National Championship game against Alabama, we did it a few times and worked well to limit their return yards. With Spiers not having the best of years (9th in ACC, less than 40 yards avg), why do we not do Rugby style more often?

Thanks!

-Bryce

Bryce,

They did it more Saturday night in Boston. The Eagles did have the one return when the ball hit T.J. Chase, but that was just a strange play. I agree with seems Spiers is better at the rugby style and barring a fluke, it should help with the coverage team.

Mickey,

I have never been to Boston or BC for a game. We watched the game and made up our minds last night that this is our next trip in two years. Is it family friendly? How is it compared to the other ACC road trips? Thanks. Go Tigers!

Marie

Marie,

The Boston College trip is unique. Boston has some interesting sections of the city. It seems the north section has more history. There are a lot of sites there. Beacon Hill, Paul Revere House, North Church, USS Constitution, Faneuil Hall, etc. The better Italian restaurants are in this area. I have stayed in Cambridge twice, and it is interesting with Harvard and MIT there. The Fenway area is pretty cool too. The Back Bay area has a lot of restaurants and nightlife. Most of the trip could remind you of a big Charleston.

I think it depends on how old your kids are. They will hear some interesting language, but that happens more now no matter where you are.

Boston College is a pretty campus with some beautiful buildings. The stadium has issues though. The concourse area is below average for the league and the piped in band sounds make it annoying.

The trip is entirely different than any other trip in the ACC. I haven’t been to Pittsburgh yet, but it doesn’t feel like the ACC.

I think for the most part you will find the people fairly accommodating. Again it depends on the age of your kids. The history makes it interesting, but there are not many impressive looking structures like you see in New York or DC. I would suggest the trip at least once.

Mickey,

Saturday is senior day, and please help make a big deal out of this. This is a special group. We need to be in our seats early and salute these guys. Thanks and Go Tigers!

Brad

Brad,

You are 100% correct. This is perhaps the greatest group of seniors we have seen to this point. They won the ACC Atlantic crown for the fourth consecutive season to become the first team to win four straight division titles. They have a chance to win the ACC title game for the fourth consecutive time which also has never been done.

Clemson opened a season 10-0 for the fourth time in program history. This group of seniors has done it twice.

This group won its 50th game in the last four years to tie the 2018 senior class with the 2017 senior class for the most wins in school history. It also tied that group for the most wins of any class in ACC history.

This class is 19-1 in true road games. They are 26-3 in games away from Death Valley. They are 24-1 at home. They are 32-2 in the ACC and 22-2 in the Atlantic Division. They are 50-4 overall. Yeah, this group is special.

This group has future Clemson Hall of Famers and Ring of Honor guys.

I can’t wait to honor Hyatt, Renfrow, Choice, Falcinelli, Wilkins, Bryant, Joseph, Thompson, Richard, Huggins, JD and Judah, Fields, Williams, Huegel, Spence, Smith, Register and the rest of this amazing group of seniors.

It is also Military Appreciation Day and that is always very special. Clemson wants to encourage you to wear purple and get in your seats early for what should be a great night in Death Valley.
