Ohio State

First, I want to thank all of our readers for being patient last week as I dealt with a violent stomach virus.  I was down Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week.  I will answer all of the email bag questions this coming Friday.  Thanks again for your patience and believe me when I say how glad I am to be back.

Now on to the blog.  Clemson will face Ohio State in the Orange Bowl and I wanted to give an early look at the Buckeyes.

Ohio State lost Saturday night in the Big 10 title game to Michigan State.  It was the Buckeyes' first loss under second year coach Urban Meyer.  Ohio State finished 12-1 this season and is ranked seventh in the AP Poll and sixth in the Coaches Poll.

The Buckeyes are led by junior All-Big 10 quarterback Braxton Miller, who was 146 of 231 through the air for 1,860 yards with 22 touchdowns and five interceptions.  He is a bigger threat running the ball with 153 carries for 1,033 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Miller and tailback Carlos Hyde both rushed for over 1,000 yards this season.  Hyde is a power back that carried the ball 183 times for 1,408 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The Buckeyes’ leading receivers are Philly Brown, who caught 55 balls for 655 yards and had 10 touchdowns, and Devin Smith, who caught 42 passes for 655 yards and had eight scores.

Ohio State boasts one of the nation's top offensive lines, which includes four returning senior starters in center Corey Linsley, guards Marcus Hall and Andrew Norwell, and tackle Jack Mewhort.

Ohio State averages 317 yards per game on the ground, which is fourth in the country.  The Buckeyes average 200 yards a game through the air which is 91st in the country.  They average 46.3 points per game which also ranks fourth in the nation.

Defensively, Ohio State has two super stars in cornerback Bradley Roby, a 5’11”, 200 pound All-American candidate, and linebacker Ryan Shazier, a 6’2”, 225 pound All-American candidate.

Lance King

This weekend was a tough one.  For a couple of years this blog's title sponsor was Lance King and lancekingmortgage.com.  Sunday we got the news that Lance passed away in his sleep Saturday night.  Lance was a good friend and terrific board member of the Ryan Harless Foundation.  He had a huge giving spirit.  Lance will be missed.  I ask that we continue to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.  Thanks.
