Greatest Clemson QB? |
Greatest Clemson QB?
I have been blessed to see some great quarterbacks at Clemson, but we may be seeing the best in school history. Steve Fuller finished sixth in the Heisman voting in 1978 and was the best I had seen at that time. Homer Jordan helped the Tigers to a National Championship. Woody Dantzler dazzled with jaw-dropping moves in the open field and had the greatest game I have ever seen with the win at NC State. Passing Attempts Tajh Boyd-2011 499 Charlie Whitehurst-2003 465 Completions Tajh Boyd-2011 298 Charlie Whitehurst-2003 288 Passing Yards Tajh Boyd-2011 3,828 Charlie Whitehurst-2003 3,561 Passing Touchdowns Tajh Boyd-2011 33 Cullen Harper-2007 27 Boyd broke the single game passing yards record with 428 yards at Wake Forest this season. He also tied the school record for touchdown passes in a game with five three times in his career. The last two games Boyd has thrown for five touchdowns in the first half. Boyd went on to tie the Clemson single game record for touchdown responsibility with six, five passing and one rushing, in the win over Duke. He enters the Maryland game with 73 total touchdowns, 62 passing and 11 rushing. He has 25 passing and five rushing so far this season, so he has 30 total. He set an ACC record last year with 38 total touchdowns, so he is on pace to break that mark as well. Boyd broke the Clemson career touchdown responsibility record when he connected on a 58-yard scoring pass to DeAndre HopkinsDeAndre Hopkins Boyd has seven of the top nine passing yardage games in Clemson history. To be fair, the game has changed through the years and passing numbers have increased. Boyd also has the luxury of playing in an offense that is loaded with terrific weapons and plays for perhaps the best offensive coordinator in the country. However, if he stays healthy, I think at some point next season we may be able to look back and call Tajh Boyd the best to ever play the position at Clemson.
