Mickey,
Have we (Clemson) abandon running out of the pistol formation if not we need to use it. The offensive play calling is too conservative at times Mickey. We are leaving the defense on the field to long and they are getting banged up. Tony and staff need to open it up more and help the defense. It's time for this offense to produce better results it's week 10. Cmon Mickey don't you agree.
Wendell

Wendell,
I agree on the pistol. I can’t remember seeing it but I love the pistol formation because it’s much less predictable. I don’t agree with the conservative comment. I wish they would run the ball more. I think the RPO takes away from some of the running opportunities. This offense is getting better, but this will not be a great offense this year. Next year the offense will have to carry the defense more often.

Mickey,

It is UGA that appears to be having the historic recruiting class for next year and the following year. Our recruiting is very good, but their next two classes appear to be elite.

On another not I'm really disappointed in Nuk Hopkins comments about Clemson. I wonder how he got such a hard heart about about Clemson. He was loved so much by the fans, yet it appears that he wants to divorce from the Tigers.-David

David,
UGA is hot right now, and the state of Georgia is loaded. I am not sure that train will slow down anytime soon.

I don’t know if he wants a divorce, but I was disappointed in his comments as well. Jealousy is not a pretty emotion.

Mickey, your blog about the NC State is spot on and I appreciate your perspective. In order to make a championship run, we need to start peaking. It starts this Saturday. We have more talent than most teams, which gives us the opportunity to win any game, but to win a championship we cannot have let downs. Last week was a perfect example of inconsistent play on both sides of ball. We can’t have lapses or it will catch up to us. I love this team’s resilience and never quit attitude; however, our margin of error is slim. As Dabo says any game can come down to one or two plays. We have seen what this team can do when playing at a high level. FSU needs to be the springboard for the remainder of the season. If we have a performance like last week, I fear for how we will finish.

Stuart

Stuart,
NC State on the road is the toughest challenge Clemson will face until a potential playoff matchup. FSU, The Citadel, South Carolina and Miami won’t be able to feature what the Wolfpack featured. That will be Clemson’s toughest test. However, Clemson cannot afford to play bad and turn the ball over against FSU, SC or Miami.

Mickey,
I agree 100 % with what you said about the NC State game. Unfortunately we have fans who feel that we should just win out and play for the championship. Glad to see you mention that we lost the best QB Clemson has ever had. How can these fans think we should be as good as we were last year? I do feel that Kelly will improve game by game, and I feel he will be a great leader.
Go Tigers,
Sam

Sam,
Thank you for the nice comments. Its hard to maintain but this program is still set for a long run of unprecedented success.

Mickey,

Thank you for providing some perspective in your NC State Review. I was frustrated by Kelly missing some throws on Saturday. I was also frustrated by the defense. However, I also realized, after a bit of time to reflect on the game, that we won because we are built to win games like that. When one realizes just how bad things were in the secondary, it is amazing we did not give up more yards and points. I'm not sure we can count on winning too many more games like this one, but it is nice to know we are good enough to overcome a dismal performance (and a serious shortage of defensive players) and win. In the meantime, I sure hope we get some guys back for South Carolina and a possible ACC Championship game and more!

Kindest Regards,

Kirk

Kirk,
Yeah, it is very difficult to win in November. This is where so many more factors show up. I like this team, and their chance’s to continue this championship run.

Hi Mickey

The reports coming from Raleigh regarding NCSU fan behavior before, during, and after the game are not good. Some questions- In situations like this, does Clemson communicate with the conference and/or the other school expressing concern? Is there a formal means within the conference for people in attendance to issue complaints?

Thanks
Pam

Pam,
Since it was a road game, I doubt Clemson has a lot of control. To my knowledge, there weren't any serious injuries, so I doubt anything comes of it. I do think the Conference office, and NC State’s athletic department wouldn’t mind hearing from anyone that had any major issues Saturday. I would hope a constructive email would assist them in case any changes should be made.

Mickey,

It is Clemson-Florida State so as Danny Ford would say, enough said. Look, surely nobody really believes Clemson is an 18 point favorite because with the players FSU has and he injuries Clemson has, I just do not see that kind of number. At times last week, Clemson looked very good at NC State but there were many times we looked terrible. I understand the injuries in the secondary made a huge difference last week and we all know the size and speed FSU has at receiver plus you just know Jimbo will throw to the backs and tight ends because he always does. Keeping players healthy this week is critical.

One of the interesting aspects of this game is if it will have affect on recruiting. Looking back through the last several years, FSU is always in the top of the rankings in recruiting and Clemson is trying to get there and has done a great job of plugging in holes. The issue of players that go pro, transfer or become injured affects both teams. I believe at some point, injuries come home to roost when you are thin at some positions and it almost cost the Tigers everything last week. The job done by the Clemson coaches overcoming the early loss of players is just amazing and that job will be critical again Saturday. It is great to recruit players that are good enough to go pro early but it is even better to replace them with pro caliber players and to be lucky enough to keep them in school and well. Big challenge this week, nuff said.

Andy

Andy,
Like you, I keep looking at Florida State’s two-deep and remembering all of these four and five-star athletes, so I do get worried. However, I have also seen them play several times this seasons, and the more I watch, the less I worry. FSU has issues on the offensive line and at quarterback. This is not a good combination. I think Clemson should be favored this weekend and that spread doesn’t appear to be too out of line.
