Mickey, Mickey, Are there any "potential" money making sports on campus besides football and men's basketball? Otherwise, break even potential. Thanks, Rivercat Rivercat, It all depends on the accounting. Baseball creates revenue, but the operating budget is also pretty high. Women's basketball and baseball are part of the television rights fees for the ACC, but I am not sure they count that as revenue generated by those sports. So actually football and men's basketball will be the only big money programs. Good Evening Mickey - I saw where freshman Lauren Stephenson is transferring out of the Tigers program to Univ. of Alabama . What's up with this ? This lady is a very, very strong talent, one of the best HS players to ever play in the state of SC. How does JT Horton let a player of this caliber leave such a young program. It can't be good for recruiting. Are there issues within the women's golf program that would make a player of Lauren's quality leave after having a very successful freshman season ? Are other players on the verge of leaving as well ? Thank You Jody Jody, The player and the staff had some issues they didn't agree. Lauren chose to leave on her own. She was not happy with the situation at Clemson and felt it would be better to leave and go to Alabama. I think Lauren Salazar is graduating and playing her last year at Maryland. One thing to remember is that not every young player's personality and every coach's personality will always mesh. Sometimes players and coaches are better off without each other. It will be interesting to see how she develops at Alabama and how Clemson replaces her spot in the lineup. Mickey, As a person spending lots of time in the car, and listening the Sirius College football on satellite radio many hours per day on average, it reinforces the thought of how lucky Clemson is with the football coaching staff. I hear all Harbaugh, Baylor, Big 12 goings on…. And sit back and think about where we are, and who we have on our side. In sports, there are many coaches out there; some good, some great, some elite, some tough, some entertaining, some with special football IQ, and some that are simply really special. Generational special. Like him or not, I personally think of Mike Krzyzewski as probably the best in all sports. This man can get walk ons to contribute to national championships (dare I say the word Renfrow). People feel privileged to play and work for him. Respect… yes plenty of it. In thinking of the great college football coaches, Saban, Urban, Etc, - someone like Krzyzewski is still yet somewhat different. I firmly believe a coach like Krzyzewski could coach any sport and be successful. Very successful. Maybe championship special. Probably could run many businesses and do great. When he is talking, people are listening. This man has built something at Duke that is ingrained in all of our heads. If he calls a recruit – the recruit’s parents look at each other and know this call is different than all the others. This is a man that so identifies with his mission and beliefs that he once turned down an offer from the Lakers, an offer of basically unlimited money and titles in one of the biggest and most glamorous cities on the planet earth. How does this tie to Clemson? If you sit and think about it, we have coach that has many of these same traits. Dabo has an opportunity to build something similar at Clemson. I believe he could take over the lacrosse team, and be very successful. Check. Simply put, he is just that type of person. Rare. Different belief system. Check. Check. I don’t care what anyone says, even with the most successful - when you jump around from school to school, NFL, NBA, back all over the place – it just isn’t the same. As great as Saban is, what he is doing at Alabama, it isn’t the same as if he was hired there in his 30’s, as a simple position coach – AND THEN reeled off the success in a place that a casual fan in America may not know where the heck it is. Billy Donovan coached Florida to a title, and could very well win an NBA title. Super impressive, but that still isn’t the same. I am talking about something like John Wooden and UCLA. Dabo has a chance to end up in the “Special” column where there are very few names. Now, it is early and there is a lot that can happen, no doubt. Its early. The first part of the story is in place for Dabo to potentially end up as a generational type coach, right up with the greatest regardless of sport. It is possible. My point is that the fact that this is even possible – that is incredible. Name another place where this is even a possibility. Most coaches you may be thinking of will probably be retired very soon, and the next big money hire rolls in. That is great for them, but it isn’t anything special. Harbaugh at Michigan scenario – that isn’t anything special. I wouldn’t trade Dabo for anyone, and I mean nobody. Name one that has a chance to do something spread over 30+ years. Who knows what will happen? It is possible for Tiger Nation and I will show up every Saturday I can to support things the best I can to see what happens next. Less than 50 days to kickoff… Mr. John C Fan Mr. Fan, Man, you have me fired up and ready for the season. This is the best I have seen the program. We are lucky to be where we are, and I am soaking it all in. I am taking none of this for granted. Mickey, The large 2016 schedule banner on the stadium wall is ok. However, I really think they should put a large dark banner over the schedule and only reveal one game at a time until we finish the deal this year. Too easy to think ahead to FSU and overlook AU and Loo-ville. A week at a time, one day at a time, one game at a time, one play at a time. I was blessed to get to go to Phoenix this year and I do not want to have to hear that blasted RTR from the Bama fans again. I do want it to be RTR, but I want to it to be ROAR, TIGERS, ROAR! Really enjoy your show. Wish you could come back from commercials with some classic Clemson football moments, like some of the Jim Philips calls and even some Yannity and Munson ones. Could be a good lead in to the season. I know that takes work and there may be licensing issues too, but it would be good to come back from a commercial with the Jim Philips call of the kick at Athens in 2016 or Munson's call of the stop of the ND 2-pt try. Just a thought. Thanks, Roger Roger, Thanks for the email. We are working on more game day calls for the show. I like your ideas, but they are in the mode of selling tickets too. Also as a fan, I can look ahead, as long as the players and coaches don't. Mickey, I would like to get your thoughts on Dabo Swinney’s back up plan if Brent Venables takes a Head Coaching job in the near future (which would be well deserved). Don’t get me wrong, I would like BV to stay in Tigertown for years to come, but you always need a contingency plan. Does he hire from within or does he explore for external resources? From Within – who are the leading candidates? Go Tigers! BuckHeadTiger BuckHeadTiger, Dabo has very qualified candidates on his current staff to promote. He also would have a huge budget to get almost any coach he wanted. Finally, the job is very attractive. So really he has the best of both worlds, and the next defensive coordinator will be very qualified. Prayer List The prayer list is a medium for our community to recognize those that are in need.
