Four More Years-Baseball |
Four Last week we introduced the first in a series of three blogs. I wanted to a two questions about Clemson football, basketball and baseball. First, are we better off than we were four years ago. Second, is the next four years gonna be better than the previous four. Last week we looked at the football program. Yesterday we analyzed the basketball program. Today we will look at the baseball program. Year-2011 Record-43-20 ACC Record-17-13 ACC Standings-2nd in Atlantic Division National Rank-16 Post Season-Lost in Regionals Year-2012 Record-35-28 ACC Record-16-14 ACC Standings-3rd in Atlantic Division National Rank-NR Post Season-Lost in Regionals Year-2013 Record-40-22 ACC Record-18-12 ACC Standings-3rd in Atlantic Division National Rank-25 Post Season-Lost in Regionals Year-2014 Record-36-25 ACC Record-15-14 ACC Standings-T-2nd in Atlantic Division National Rank-NR Post Season- Notes-Clemson is 154-95 overall in the last four years heading into this season. The Tigers are 66-53 in the ACC the last four campaigns. The Tigers have not won a regional in the last four years. Is Clemson Baseball Better Off Than It Was Four Years Ago? The program set a very high bar under Bill Wilhelm and the early years under Jack LeggettJack Leggett Are The Next Four Years Better Than The Previous Four? Again I am an optimist. I hope for the best. I am hopeful the new facilities can help the Tigers turn things around. It is too early to judge this season after just one series, but it was the first time Jack Leggett lost a home opening series. I cannot honestly say that I feel better about the next four years of Clemson baseball. I hope I am dead wrong and can watch this program quickly get back to the days of winning ACC titles, regionals and super regionals. However, my head tells my heart to prepare for more of the same results we have witnessed in seven of the last eight seasons. View Full Profile. This was a program that consistently won ACC titles and made trips to Omaha. Clemson has been to the College World Series just once in the last eight seasons. It is clear the program slipped over the last ten years. But has even slipped again over the last four years. While it is true Clemson has not won a regional and been to a super regional in the past four years, the way the Tigers are losing is worse. Four years ago Clemson at least hosted a regional. In that 2011 season UCONN beat Clemson twice on the final day to advance. In 2011 Clemson went 2-2 in the regional in Columbia losing to the top seed Gamecocks twice. The last two seasons have ended worse. Two years ago Clemson was once again in Columbia but never even got to face the Gamecocks because Liberty beat the Tigers twice. Last year the Tigers were a three seed and were embarrassed by Oregon 18-1 then eliminated by Xavier 6-4.The Brad Hughes All-State Insurance Agency
