Mickey,

What I saw on Wednesday in Charlotte is basically what I have seen since the late ’60s. It is Clemson basketball. I hate it but there is no denying it. This entire season epitomizes Clemson’s basketball history.

Personally, I do think we should have performed better this season and there were higher hopes because of last season and because of the returning players, but it did not happen.

I expect this team to play a couple of careless games in the NIT and that will close the book.

What concerns me even more as a Clemson grad and fan……………next year’s team.

Now I would love to be wrong, but from what I see from this year’s returning players,

(I think that is less than 10 pts per game) next year could be downright embarrassing. There are absolutely no scoring threats; no real basketball players.

It may be the least amount of basketball talent for sure since some of Shyatt’s teams.

I keep hearing “it can be done” at Clemson, but it is basically the same storyline.

A decent season once in a while and mediocrity (at best) most years. It is a shame the fans all had higher expectations for this season, but I promise you there should be

none for next year. I love all things Clemson, but this is the hard truth about this basketball program.

Again, surely would like to be wrong.

Bill,

I understand your frustration. I didn’t start watching until a few years after you, but many of these years can be maddening. I think you are like so many fans that have little confidence in the program but want to be wrong. Like you, I had high expectations for this team but they have been disappointed. Also, I am also concerned about next season. Losing four seniors will be difficult. The good news is baseball season is here and spring football is always interesting. I know that doesn’t matter to those looking for answers in basketball but I am not sure what the answers are. The best news is Clemson can win in basketball. I refuse to believe that we are doomed forever. It can be done.

Mickey: This Brownell character its clueless as coach. In the second half he let the Tiger players shoot 3 after 3 after 3 and eventually fold. If early in the season he tells them not shoot a 3 and if they

do, they're benched they would probably get the message. Clearly he is clueless as to how to in game coach, he really doesn't even know what to or not to tell them. Disgusting and if he stays I'm done with

this crappy basketball program and a coach who should be coaching in high school leagues.

Furthermore, Thomas is about as much of a basketball player as I am an astronaut. What a waste of talent potential. Clemson is a football/baseball school and up and coming lady basketball school. Do away with the basketball program. A disgusting performance once

again!!!

JT

JT,

I don’t agree with your entire assessment. I don’t want to do away with the basketball program and am not sure if you are serious. I will chalk up some of these comments to frustration. I will tell you this, Clemson can win in basketball. It’s not impossible, so I don’t want to drop the program.

Mickey,

I was driving and heard you say in the show that Clemson will sign a bunch of five stars this year. I missed your predictions on numbers and specifics. Can you recap your thoughts? Thanks.

Bart

Bart,

I feel like there is always the disclaimer in recruiting that things always change. Recruiting is a fluid situation. Therefore, I always reserve the right to change my predictions tomorrow. Lol. What we said in the show was:

1-Clemson signed six five-stars in 2018 but that record will be broken in 2020.

2-I think Clemson currently is in great shape with D.J. Uiagalelei, Julian Fleming, Bryan Bresee, Jordan Burch, and Myles Murphy. I think they could sign a five-star linebacker like Sampah or Flowe. I also think they could sign a five-star running back like Bowman.

3-There is also a chance one of their four-stars can gain five-star status before the final rankings.
